As a Sorcerer, killing a weak enemy that has first strike after taking Sanctify results in piety loss, rather than gain. What appears to happen is that, e.g. with a Goblin, the Goblin strikes first, then the mana shield retaliates which nullifies Sanctify, then the Sorcerer counterattacks and kills the Goblin which makes Glowing Guardian angry.
A similar thing happens if you take sanctify and attack a weak enemy and your attack doesn't quite kill it but the mana shield does - Sanctify wears off after your attack, so when the mana shield counters the enemy attack it makes GG angry.
I suppose the second might be intentional - although if Assassins can Sanctify with their instakill, I don't see why Sorcerers shouldn't be allowed to do so with their mana shield - but the first scenario seems like an unintended side effect of the recent change to mana shield turn priority.
