So I started used Patches...

I always heard everyone talking about how amazing Patches was. I never knew what this item 'Patches' was, since I couldn't identify any item that granted all the amazing benefits, and filled all the roles that this mysterious, wonderful item did. Turns out it's just the magic teddy bear. Huh. So I started using him to see what all the fuss was about:

Anyway, Patches is good because he grants permanent benefits in exchange for a short-term loss, but sometimes the loss just happens to be game-ending, like your screenshot. Don't pick him on stages where teleports are likely to screw you over unless you're that sort of gambling man.

What benefits does he grant? Sometimes when I level, nothing seems to happen. But I wouldn't be suprised if that was just me not noticing a minor stat increase.

Fucking bear just manaburned my 4 times in a row. Do you have any idea how crippling that is to a warlord at low levels? EXTREMELY.

Me and patches are no longer on talking terms. He teleported me into a hallway. With one exit. Which was guarded by the boss. When I was level 3.

Oh patches... Such a cruel sense of humor for a teddy bear.
This is what I know for certain about him:
He has a chance of increasing both resistances by 4% and a chance of increasing max health and mana.
I assume:
He has a chance of increasing damage (either through a % or base)
Punishments:
Teleportation, manaburn, poison, and exploration?

Patches is really only awesome for a Paladin, since poison can't affect you. Always prepare a burn Salve when you bring him.

I've also had some good success with him as a Rogue, since you can avoid taking damage for an entire level if necessary.

I think he'd work pretty well with Crusader too, as long as you don't need protection from Weakening or Corrosion.

I suppose... but if you got poison first, an untimely mana burn could be devastating.
