The Perpetual Questing Initiative
<div style="float:right;padding-left:5px"></div>

The Perpetual Questing Initiative is a roving quest that moves from dungeon to dungeon encouraging you to get more completion. It is unlocked when you collect your 15th unique trophy. The PQI will appear in a somewhat randomly chosen dungeon (selection is heavily weighted towards dungeons with lower completion) asking you to defeat it with a particular race and class, while earning a particular badge. If possible, it will choose a class and badge that you don't yet have credit for. The reward is 500 for completing a normal PQI (and 1500 for completing a Vicious PQI). When you complete the Perpetual Questing Initiative, it will reappear in a new dungeon (this may also happen when you complete any dungeon, or quit the game).

PQI Selection Algorithm
Based on observation, the PQI algorithm works as follows:

1. PQI first picks a dungeon. Normally it selects the least completed dungeon and always excludes both Gaan-Telets. Initially Vicious dungeons cannot appear in the PQI. Once you have progressed sufficiently in the game, the PQI will start to select Vicious difficulty dungeons as well. At first their weight is significantly reduced; however, as you approach 100% completion, their weight increases. In a fully rainbowed kingdom, PQI only selects Vicious dungeons.

2. PQI then picks a class. If any class badges are still missing from the selected dungeon, it randomly picks one of those; if all classes are completed, PQI picks any one random class. PQI never picks Goatperson.

3. PQI then picks a race (for non-monster classes only). The race is selected from a short list of races tied to the class picked. Prior runs (or frequency of each race being used) have no effect on this. For example, the short list of Warlord includes Dwarf and Halfling, so whenever Warlord is picked, it will be either Dwarf or Halfling, because these are the only two options. See below for the possible combinations.

4. PQI then picks a badge. If any badge is missing, it picks one of those randomly; if all badges are already completed, it pick any one random badge. PQI never picks Vicious Token.

Collapsinghrung: /* Kingdom's Gold */ typo - correct "thme" to "them"

Kingdom's Gold
The gold owned by the kingdom and the one owned by you adventurers are two different things. Appart from the small amount of gold they bring with them, adventurers will most rely on what they find in the dungeons, and they will mostly used it to purchase things from the dungeons merchants. While kindom's gold is handled in much larger quantity, and is mostly used to unlock buildings and prepare adventurers.

Dungeon's Gold
Finding gold
How much gold is there in a dungeon ?
Gold piles
There are 10 gold piles in each dungeon. Each pile can have a 1-gold, 2-gold or 3-gold value. There is never fewer than 2 of each pile type, but otherwise the split seems random. So on the average is 20 gold (usually between 17 and 23).

Subdungeons
Some subdungeons will have 5 random gold piles. These will again have the same values (1-gold to 3-gold), so on average finding such a sub nets you an additional 10 gold.

There is the "lots of gold" secret sub, that has 20 gold piles, giving you 40 extra gold.

Petrified monsters
Petrified monsters leave one gold coin when they are destroyed.

Boss' gold
When there are multiple boss in a dungeon, the trophy they drop can be sold in the dungeon for 25 gold.

Preparations
Black Market adds +1 gold to each pile, which - given the 10 piles - means you get an eventual +10 gold. Needless to say, if you find any of the subs with gold in them, it will be worth even more (or, if you are using IMAWAL and some means to break walls; the gold piles left are normally worth 1-gold, but Black Market also boosts that by +1).

Using gold
The most obvious gold use is objects purchase from the shops. But keep in mind that objects can be converted, so gold is potential conversion points.

There are some other usage, depending on your situation :
* You can purchase piety for Tikki Tooki
* Some objects require gold to perform, such as the Crystal Ball

If you have some piety to spare in the end of the dungeon, you can spend it on Tikki Tooki boons: Dodging (+10) and Tikki's Edge (+10).
Finally you can bring your money back to the kingdom. But while 50 gold is a lot of cash in a dungeon, it is really not much money in a kingdom...

The Pactmaker is not a religion in the same sense as the other eight deities, the Pactmaker is a bit of an enigma. He offers six pacts with varying effects, and does not require you to "join" his religion. Instead, the chosen pact will siphon piety away from your current religion to fuel their effect. This allows the Pactmaker to complement other gods and create unique combinations. This enables players to use deities that do not offer any worthwhile boons for their strategy, so long as they are capable of earning piety. The Pactmaker also offers the Consensus Pact, granting a massive influx of piety instead of draining it.

You can only ever request a single Pact, and it can never be disabled (though if you run out of piety it will not take you into the negatives) so always choose wisely and ensure you have enough piety income to fuel the pact in question. The Pactmaker will appear sporadically throughout the game, and will only be unlocked once you have unlocked every other altar. He is widely regarded as one of the most powerful deities in the game for his ability to increase the effectiveness of every other deity.

The Pactmaker is the only altar that cannot be desecrated, as well as the only one that cannot be forced to spawn through preparations.

Boons
Because the Pactmaker can be combined with any other deity, he has by far the broadest application and is almost always worthwhile.

Scholar's Pact
This Pact is very useful for characters who are performing XP catapults to quickly level-up, granting a one-time bonus every time you gain a level. It's extremely powerful for any character who needs to get more mileage out of his full heal on level-up. Naturally, this works even better if you've increased your hit points using boons such as Absolution or Boost Health, but it's not very useful for spellcasters. This can also be very expensive if you select the Pact early.

Alchemist's Pact
This boon is quite expensive and has a lesser effect than most of the other boons. If you're just a few notches away from leveling up it can be a great "last minute" pact to eke out a little more XP, but the high piety cost and low effect means it's seldom worthwhile unless it's just to push you over the edge.

Warrior's Pact
A great Pact for Rogue or anyone who needs to get a little bit more HP to survive the boss. The Warrior's Pact can easily turn a large number of popcorn monsters into a healthy layer of extra hit points. However, the piety cost is quite significant and can quickly drain you if you don't have enough piety income to maintain it. Tikki Tooki, Taurog, and Dracul (with Blood Tithe and Blood Hunger) make the best choices when using this boon since they will grant piety to offset the cost whenever you kill a monster. Worshippers of Jehora Jeheyu are advised to use his "boost health" boon rather than attempt to use this Pact.

Body Pact
Very similar to the Warrior's Pact, the Body Pact will allow you to accrue resistances. This is both the most powerful and most expensive of the Pactmaker's pacts. You usually need to begin using this pact early, since it only triggers if the monster successfully attacks you. Slow Strike can be a merit when you made body pact. You also need an enormous amount of piety income to maintain it. This boon works best with the The Earthmother, Binlor, Taurog, Mystera Annur, and Glowing Guardian; deities that can generate large amounts of piety at low levels, or generate a steady piety influx on leveling phase.

Spirit Pact
Although the amount of conversion points appear low, they can add up if you convert some low-cost items that are bought from shops. The piety cost can be a very difficult to sustain, and the benefits can be difficult to accrue in large amounts. This pact is usually only worthwhile for characters which literally have nothing better to spend their piety on, and it's almost always preferable to go with other Pacts. For instance, Dwarf will almost always end up with significantly more hit points at a lower piety cost by using the Warrior's Pact and Goblin will get more XP by using the Alchemist's Pact. Unless you're a Human or Orc desperate for damage or an Elf desperate for mana, there's little reason to pick this pact over the other superb options offered here. Goatperson under Glowing Guardian or Jehora Jeheyu will greatly enjoy this pact.

Consensus
Very simple: your piety maximum is reduced to 50 and you get filled up to this lower maximum. For most deities, this isn't a big deal, and if you're having trouble earning piety it's unlikely you'll hit the lower cap. This pact works well if you get stuck in a religion and cannot convert out, desperately need a specific boon, need a last resort of piety. There are not many boons that costs 50+.

You can still select a boon after using Consensus, but you cannot select Consensus after selecting a boon (so you can't just make a pact and still get some free 50 during the endgame). Pay careful attention to the order in which you do things, because this particularly pact option is quite fickle.

Notes
Piety payment and indulgences
Note that piety payments does not trigger indulgences. It had triggered indulgences before patch 1.53.

The Earthmother is an ancient guardian of natural order. Favoured by survivalists and druids, her boons deal with growth, decay and rebirth.

Although she cares for little beyond the safety and sanctity of her plant life, she'll favour your flesh-and-blood followers who are willing to commit plant and animal matter to the earth.

The Earthmother is uncovered in a subdungeon to the South. Her subdungeon is completely revealed, filled with plants and level 9 "Gardeners". Cut your way across the room to her altar to unlock her, or using the WEYTWUT glyph on a nearby Plant is even simpler.

Boons
Entanglement
The Earthmother's best boon, slowing every monster on the same dungeon level. Unlike Titan Guitar, entanglement does not slow plants. Slowed monsters lose their First Strike benefits, and also grant 1 extra XP when killed. For a mere 5, this is a very good boon and one that you should almost always take.

It's cheap enough to be used multiple times as a finishing move against a single higher level enemy. This allows you to kill higher level monsters. Together with IMAWAL, it's Earthmother's best help for your leveling.

This boon is very useful when you want to slow all the lower level monsters. But slowed popcorns only give you bonus exp only when you can kill them in one shot. One trick is to attack all higher health monsters first so that they are in one-hit range, purchase entanglement, then killing them. This is one of the few rare cases where simultaneously fighting with several monsters is good approach.

Vine Form
Quite useful for low-level characters, granting extra hit points and damage reduction. Against low-damage monsters such as the Meat Man this can allow you to fight enemies three or four levels higher than yourself. When fighting high damage enemies, Vine Form can also be used to boost your hit points to a level where you can take one hit. However, these benefits do not scale with your level and they will be largely meaningless by the time you're level 10. Try not to invest in more than you need.

Greenblood
This boon adds a flat amount of corrosion damage per hit and ignores resistances, and therefore works well when more attacks will be required to kill the enemy. It's strongest in the early game, but the added damage remains relevant throughout the game when combined with attacks that deal low damage, such as knockback, fireballs, and monk hits. For example, four uses of Greenblood is equivalent to having an extra character level for the purpose of casting fireballs. The curse removal can also occasionally come in handy.

Clearance
Restores 10 mana if there are enough plants on the map to be cleared, at a very affordable piety cost. This allows Earthmother followers a massive amount of extra spellcasting during the late game. If there aren't enough plants remaining on the map, the full amount of mana won't be restored. Entanglement can be used to spawn plants cheaply if needed.

This boon is also usable when you are stuck from a target monster via plants but do not want to kill plants, but maybe only when you are not going to mana spike with this boon.

Plantation
This boon can be used to generate large sums of piety, and is particularly useful when converting into The Earthmother during the end-game. Keep in mind that using this boon will effectively preclude a conversion into Dracul, since those blood pools will no longer be available for him. If you intend to make such a conversion at some point, avoid Plantation.

To maximize your piety gain, check the number of bloodstains before useing plantation. Avoid killing popcorns if your piety gain would exceed 100. This way you can use plantation again after you use some of your piety. Keep in mind that this boon requires 5 to use! If you converted your IMAWAL and no piety sparkles are left, you can accidently miss to use the expected plantation and ruin your run.

Strategy
The Earthmother is the goddess of nature and plants, and doesn't enjoy heroes cutting a safari-style path through her precious flora. The Earthmother is one of the most straightforward deities in the game to please, and in practice the one of the few which you can reliably go the entire game without ever incurring any penalty to piety. She offers strong combat boosts in the early game, good experience boosts throughout, and potentially a lot of mana refreshment for the late game. However her boons spawn plants which can cause exploration to be difficult, especially when you prepared her.

The only two acts that anger The Earthmother are destroying plant life and using the Life steal ability. The only act that pleases her is using IMAWAL (you can also use Plantation to gain piety). This makes her fairly easy to play; petrify stuff to gain piety, and leave her plants alone. Since most dungeons don't have any plants to begin with, and the Earthmother does not create very many, it's unlikely you will ever have serious issues before the time comes to convert out.

The Earthmother grants 5 for petrifying plants and other non-XP enemies, and 10 for petrifying XP-yielding enemies. The best targets for this are plants, high level monsters that you are unlikely to kill such as the Animated Armour, and low level monsters. Petrifying plants can be used as a renewable piety generator, since the piety gained from petrifying the plants can be used to buy more boons which will spawn more plants. In this way, the penalty for preparing Earthmother's altar can sometimes actually be beneficial, although you will need to be able to cope with having your path blocked sometimes.

Sometimes you may need to chop down a plant or two as a last resort if you get blocked and take the piety hit, so in cramped levels consider maintaining a small piety buffer. An early Clearance can also be used for this purpose, particularly if the mana restoration can be put to good use to kill a high level enemy.

Earthmother's boons are strongest during the leveling up phase of the game. A dedicated Earthmother worshipper is often able to kill enemies one level higher than otherwise, and the bonus XP from these kills will be further multiplied by IMAWAL's Experience Boost. This translates to more Entangled popcorn left on the field, and makes it easier to to level up twice during the boss fight.

One good strategy with The Earthmother is to use a variety of her boons at a low cost, then either use IMAWAL or Plantation to build up to 100, activate Entanglement, and convert to another god with 50. On the flip side, converting into The Earthmother to use Plantation and then spend your piety on Clearance to get mana for the final boss is a great "last-ditch" move for characters dependent on spellcasting. The Earthmother also makes a good "escape deity" choice if you just want to avoid taking further piety punishments. If there are no plants on the field and you don't have a Life steal ability, she will never punish you.

Advanced players with slower playstyle can write down how many plants are currently on the dungeon level.

Preperation penalty and Punishment
The Earthmother also has the least harmful desecration penalty on her altar, causing a mere 5 layers of Corrosion. You can cure this with a Burn Salve potion, and it's not going to be a huge deal for a higher-level character anyway. This makes her pretty much the only deity who is routinely desecrated immediately after converting out, and one of the most frequent victims of desecration of any deity.

Her preperation panelty is to double the number of plant spawning from her boons, including Plantation. This can seriously injure your mobility, and it can be critical in some narrower dungeons. However, her preperation panelty can sometimes help you; the panelty provides enough plants for you. In the early stage this will enhance the chance to find a petrifiable plant so that you can use IMAWAL on them to grant piety. In the latter stages you can use Clearance without the need to generate plants from other boons.

Because her preperation panelty does nothing bad on your dungeon if you don't actively worship her or use her boons, preparing her altar just to desecrate can be a descent choice if you didn't choose what diety you will follow in your run.
The Perpetual Questing Initiative
<div style="float:right;padding-left:5px"></div>

The Perpetual Questing Initiative is a roving quest that moves from dungeon to dungeon encouraging you to get more completion. It is unlocked when (you collect your 15th unique trophy?). The PQI will appear in a somewhat randomly chosen dungeon (selection is heavily weighted towards dungeons with lower completion) asking you to defeat it with a particular race and class, while earning a particular badge. If possible, it will choose a class and badge that you don't yet have credit for. The reward is 500 gold for completing a normal PQI (and 1500 gold for completing a Vicious PQI).

Possible PQI Race-Class Combinations
Namtar's Lair is a Vicious level dungeon located in the East. It is unlocked by completing Dancing Blades.

Overview
Monsters: Frozen trolls, warlocks, goo blobs, shades, burn vipers, and vampires.

Bosses: The boss of the dungeon, Namtar, has six forms. Each form must be defeated in succession to win the dungeon. Once Namtar's first form is defeated on the main map, he revives and must be defeated again. After that, his corpse becomes an item that must be picked up and carried into the actual lair subdungeon. The staircase leading into the lair is only usable after Namtar's corpse has been picked up. The lair has four levels, and Namtar revives in each level and must be defeated anew, until on the fourth lair level he can be finally defeated. His abilities and stats change from form to form.

Special: When you enter the lair - or descend into a deeper level - you may no longer return to the main map, or any previous lair levels. The first three lair levels have a moderate amount of black tiles that allow a decent amount of regeneration and may even be used to Regen-fight some of the low damage dealing forms of Namtar. Each of these levels also host 3 low-mid level Imps in addition to Namtar's next form. The fourth lair level is very small and hosts no other monsters except for the final form of Namtar. Furthermore, after defeating the 3rd, 4th and 5th form of Namtar, the player receives a penalty that includes several malevolent effects: forms 3, 4, and 5 all apply -10 max health, -2 max mana, and -5 base damage on being killed. Form 4 also removes your Magic resist and Physical resist, and form 5 applies 10 stacks of Corrosion and 10 of Weakened.

Strategy
Recommended Classes: Priest, Sorcerer, Transmuter, Warlord

It is recommended that the player conserve resources like Potions and single-use items as much as possible before entering the lair subdungeon, as the subsequent forms of Namtar are each challenging. It is also recommended that the player fully explore the main map, as well as pick up or buy any items they will need, as there is no turning back after descent.

Namtar's forms have different abilities, therefor more flexible characters will generally fare better. Reliance on a specific tactic will require the proper preparation (for example, to maintain the Warlord's ability to cast CYDSTEPP, Mystara or the Elven Boots are recommended to offset the Mana reduction penalties), or will be impossible after a certain point (i.e. reliance on Resistances).

Quests
There are no quests associated with this dungeon. However, upon completion the player is rewarded with Namtar's Ward.
The Vampire is an uncommon monster, and is only present in a handful of dungeons. It has the ability to steal life-force from the player when uncovered during exploration, which can be very damaging to regen-fighters. Fortunately, vampires are otherwise relatively mediocre monsters that present little difficulty once this initial annoyance is overcome.

Because the life stolen by a vampire is overhealed, you can safely attack them to remove the hit points and then explore to heal. The vampire will not regain the stolen health, which will even the scales and leave the monster easy pickings. Another option is to use LEMMISI or BLUDTUPOWA to reveal tiles. Vampires revealed in this fashion will not steal life, and these glyphs effectively disable their primary ability.

The Vampire boss is Count BlahBlah. He is found only in the Eastern Tundra and the Vicious Halls of Steel. His actual abilities vary depending on which dungeon you encounter him in.

The Shade is a rare monster that appears only in very special circumstances in a select few dungeons. It appears in only four dungeons: Namtar's Lair, Creeplight Ruins, the Cursed Oasis, and the Tower of Gaan-Telet. This rarity is fortunate, since the Shade is one of the nastiest monsters in the game with its combination of lifesteal, blinking, and physical resistance.

Like all blinking foes, Shades are very difficult to fight early in exploration, since they are likely to teleport into unexplored territory. However, there is the added danger that a shade that teleports into unexplored areas has an opportunity to life steal you for a second time. Due to their high physical resistance and the life they have stolen it will be very difficult to kill them in a single blow, leaving few easy approaches to take down this monster type.

The easiest way to fight Shades is by waiting until the level is mostly explored. This mitigates the difficulty presented by their blink/lifesteal combo, but this is not always an option if you want to fight them early. The WEYTWUT glyph is one of your only reliable approaches to prevent the monster from blinking away. Knockback effects also work, but if you push the wraith into unexplored territory it will lifesteal from you again, so careful positioning is required to take this approach.

In most dungeons, there are ways to avoid Shades. In Gaan-Telet, they will have bloodstains surrounding them, allowing you to reveal them when you're injured to minimize the amount of life loss. In Creeplight Ruins, the cultists will only transform after you slay the sacrificial goat. If you simply wait until the dungeon is mostly explored the Shades won't be a problem at all. However, there is no easy way to avoid Shades in Namtar's Lair or the Cursed Oasis. On the Cursed Oasis, dealing with Shades will be one of your biggest challenges.

There is a mini-boss in the Cursed Oasis level who is a shade. Defeating him is not technically necessary to win that dungeon, but may be unavoidable.
