The enigmatic Wizards have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of arcane knowledge. Their detachment from the physical and mundane -- combined with their ability to continue adventuring well into old age -- means that they're not the most accomplished hand-to-hand combatants, but they can hurl great big fiery balls of death better than most people, so who really cares?

Strategy
The Wizard is the first class unlocked at the Mage Tower and a very flexible and potent spellcaster. The most obvious strength of the Wizard is the discount on casting costs, which is very noticeable with repeatable combat spells such as BURNDAYRAZ, APHEELSIK, PISORF, and BYSSEPS. A wizard can cast two fireballs out of the gate with no preparations, and quickly gains access to stronger combinations. Wizards also build stacks of burning at double the rate, meaning the damage picks up quite quickly when repeatedly fireballing enemies.

Wizards are able to find all the glyphs quickly, have the unique ability to hold all of them at the same time, and can accumulate significant conversion bonuses without the need to convert many glyphs. More than any other class, a Wizard is likely to have the right glyph as a tool to deal with specific situations or enemies.

Wizards usually want to start by making a beeline to all the glyphs before converting anything. Once all the glyphs are collected, they can buy cheap items from dungeon shops if nothing better is available, and convert them for bonuses. Holding 6 glyphs, each item converted will also collect 60 CP from the glyphs without destroying them.

Deities
Earthmother is a powerful deity for wizards, as her Greenblood bonus damage can be taken multiple times and is inflicted with every cast of BURNDAYRAZ or PISORF, and her repeatable Clearance boon gives a wizard exactly two fireballs every time. Holding on to IMAWAL until the late game to grab lots of bonus experience, together with utility spells to get around plants that spawn in bad locations without having to kill them, is also easy for Wizards to do.

Mystera may seem to be an obvious choice as the goddess of magic, although Mystic Balance is usually harmful to a Wizard who already has discounted spell costs. Still, she offers a couple of mana points for very little cost, and is generous with her piety. If no better deity is available in the endgame, Wizards can recover a significant amount of mana by converting their stored glyphs with Refreshment, and her Weakness boon can help with resists.

Although Binlor doesn't synergize that well with a dedicated fireball caster as his boons lean towards melee combat, he makes a good choice for Orcs, being the only deity to guarantee two spells including the mighty PISORF. His knockback boon also goes well with Orcs' enhanced based damage. His Stone Heart power is also one of the most efficient ways to wear down enemy resistances if there are enough walls on the level.

The wizard is flexible enough that most deities can be made to work well, with the notable exception of Taurog.

Races
Orc Wizards (OrWi) are one of the most versatile characters in the game, as they can easily stack up physical base damage while keeping hold most of their glyphs. As PISORF works off base damage, and the wizard gets a 25% discount on its cost, an Orc Wizard can make this spell a very powerful weapon. The Orc also gets a lot of use out of physical combat glyphs such as BYSSEPS (1 mana), GETINDARE (2 mana) and CYDSTEPP.

Elf Wizards (ElWi) are strong because more mana = more fireballs = good. The Wizard's Magic Affinity allows to exploit BURNDAYRAZ without requiring Mystera's Mystic Balance, and you can easily cast 4 or even 5 fireballs at once with an elf wizard.

Gnome Wizards (GnWi) are strong because mana is an important resource to wizards, so obviously more mana potions can mean a lot for the wizard, especially against bosses.

Items
Elven Boots are available early on in the game and make an excellent prep item, allowing the Wizard to get to a 3-fireball mana pool easily. Especially if Extra Mana is also chosen. The Crystal Ball charges very quickly in the hands of a Wizard, especially combined with a deity that can help regenerate mana. Dragon Soul gives a lot of free spells over the course of the game, and is recommended when taken with a deity that lets you convert early mana into piety.
}}</onlyinclude>

BURNDAYRAZ is the fireball glyph, and one of the only ways to deal magic damage to monsters. When cast on enemy monsters, they will take magical damage and will not be able to attack the player back. With the exception of special challenges, this glyph will always be found in every single dungeon you play. It is a versatile and well-balanced offensive glyph that virtually any character can use effectively.

Beware of monsters with the ability to retaliate against fireballs! When you cast the BURNDAYRAZ glyph against such a foe, they will attack you back. Because most characters will deal significantly more damage on a physical attack than they will only a magical BURNDAYRAZ attack, it is effectively never worthwhile to attack such enemies with this spell.

Unlocking the glyph
The BURNDAYRAZ glyph is always unlocked.

Strategy
As the basic magical attack glyph, BURNDAYRAZ is used by most characters to supplement their physical attack and give them a good way to spend their mana. Because the glyph can be cast repeatedly, it is one of the best ways to use mana potions in order to "damage spike" a boss at the end of the game, and is particularly worthwhile for elves and gnomes as a result.

As a repeatable glyph, BURNDAYRAZ is quite useful for damage spiking monsters, allowing you to quickly unload all your mana into damage. Additionally, by accruing the Burning effect, the glyph can be used to reduce the health regeneration of monsters and add damage to the next attack against the target. This can be combined with the APHEELSIK glyph or the BLUDTUPOWA glyph to excellent effect. Either way, BURNDAYRAZ works best with characters who have a large mana capacity.

BURNDAYRAZ is particularly useful for dealing with enemies that have death protection. The fireball itself will deal damage and expend a layer of death protection, but it will also leave the target Burning. By attacking a different monster, the burning effect will expire and deal 1 point of damage, which will knock out a second layer of death protection!

The weakness of BURNDAYRAZ is that it's not very efficient. A level 10 character can cast this spell for 40 damage, but even without any extra bonuses whatsoever a 10th level character can expect to deal 65 damage on a physical attack. Characters which have put significant effort into raising their attack damage will find the damage dealt by BURNDAYRAZ quite pathetic by comparison and are well-served by looking for other ways to spend their mana.

There are very few repeatable glyphs that can be used mid-combat to effectively funnel your mana into attack damage. With the exception of the Warlord, who can use the CYDSTEPP glyph mid-combat, the only glyphs that can be reliably used to funnel mana into damage are HALPMEH and PISORF. This means BURNDAYRAZ occupies a unique tactical niche.

Items
Unusually for a glyph, BURNDAYRAZ is specifically affected by a number of items. The Battlemage Ring increases the damage by 1 per level; the Witchalok Pendant grants a layer of stone skin every time BURNDAYRAZ is cast; and the Avatar's Codex massively increases the power of your fireballs at the cost of allowing all monsters to retaliate.

Hints
* The Berserker and Crusader are the only character classes that have considerable trouble using BURNDAYRAZ. The Berserker suffers heavily from the heightened mana cost, while the Crusader loses his momentum whenever he casts this and may end up dealing less damage overall.
* Dracul's Blood Curse causes you to gain a level without any increase to stats, which means you aren't any stronger. However, the damage dealt by BURNDAYRAZ is based on your level and not your stats, so it will improve regardless.
Corroded targets take extra damage equal to the number of Corrosion stacks when damaged.

Cursed
While cursed, all sources of damage reduction and resistances you have are nullified.

:Removal: Killing a non-Cursed monster (1 stack), The Earthmother's Greenblood (1 stack), Glowing Guardian's Enlightenment (all stacks)

:Removal: Burn Salve (all stacks), Glowing Guardian's Cleansing (1 stack), Jehora Jeheyu's Chaos Avatar (all stacks)

Exhausted
Mana won't regenerate until full health is restored.

Mana Burned
When mana burned, you do not regenerate mana from exploration and your mana is immediately set to 0.

:Removal: Leveling up, drinking a Mana Potion or Burn Salve, Glowing Guardian's Cleansing, or equipping the Soul Orb.

:Note: some effects, such as the BLUDTUPOWA glyph, can still restore your mana while mana-burned. These will not cure the affliction, however.

Poisoned
The poisoned target (monster/player) does not regenerate HP from player exploration.

:Removal: Leveling up, drinking a Health Potion or Fortitude Tonic, Glowing Guardian's Cleansing, casting HALPMEH, or equipping the Viper Ward.

:Poison on monsters expires after the specified amount of tiles have been revealed.

Slow Strike
Will strike last in a combat round. For more details see Strike Order.

Weakened
Your base damage is reduced by an amount equal to the number of stacks of Weakened.

Removal: Fortitude Tonic (all stacks), Glowing Guardian's Cleansing (1 stack), Jehora Jeheyu's Chaos Avatar (all stacks)

Applicable Monster Debuffs
Burning
One stack of Burning is applied to a monster when the attack source has the Burning trait. (BURNDAYRAZ or attack w/ Whurrgarbl). Only one enemy can be Burning at any given time.

:Attacking another monster or applying an attack to the Burned monster from a non-Burning attack removes the trait, dealing Magical damage equal to the number of Burning stacks on expiration; hitting a monster with this trait using an attack which inflicts Burning will deal bonus damage equal to the number of pre-existing Burning stacks on it, then the new stacks are applied.

:Maximum charges of Burning equal x2 of your current level.

:When exploring tiles, a monster with this trait will regenerate HP as though it were 1 level lower than it actually is, regardless of how many stacks it has.

Slowed
The target has a slow attack speed, meaning that it will usually attack last in combat (and thus not injure the player for the final blow). See more details in strike order.

:Being Slowed also disables the following monster traits: Blinks, Cowardly, First strike, Retaliate: Fireball. Killing a Slowed monster grants a bonus of 1 xp. If a monster has been Slowed, the effect will usually wear off as soon as the monster takes damage (including from BURNDAYRAZ or PISORF).

Wicked Sick
The monster got leveled up by playing the guitar.

Zotted
The monster has its max hp halved by using the Orb of Zot.

Monster traits
Berserks
When monster's health is below the Berserk %, its attacks deal 50% more damage.

Blinks
When attacked, the monster will teleport to a random location on the map.

:More precisely, if a blinking enemy is next to the player when a round of damage is finished being taken, it'll blink.
Also, note that a slowed monster will not blink.

:For example:
:* Hitting or casting a fire ball to a blinking monster will make it blink.
:* Hitting or casting a fire ball to a SLOWED blinking monster will NOT make it blink.
:* Pisorfing a blinking monster into another monster will make it blink. It won't take knockback damages.
:* Pisorfing a blinking monster into a wall or empty air, will NOT make it blink.
:* Pisorfing a regular monster into a blinking monster will NOT make it blink.

Bloodless
This monster does not leave behind a blood pool after being slain, and does not allow life steal.

Cowardly
When attacked, the monster will flee the opposite direction of you if possible.

To determine whether a monster will flee or not, it will use the same rule as blinking.

Curse Bearer
Every time you kill or take damage from a Curse Bearer monster, you will gain a stack of Cursed.

Corrosive
The monster's attack applies a stack of Corrosion. When killed, it leaves a pool of acid which applies Corrosion when stepped on instead of a blood pool.

Death Protection
If a monster with Death Protection were to die, the next hit reduces it to 1 HP and a stack of Death Protection removed.

Death-gaze
Death-gaze is always accompanied by a percent value, if you get hit by a monster who has death gaze while your life is below the stated percent, you'll die by being turned to stone, the Next Hit prediction box will state "Petrified" when this is going to occur.

Fast regen
The monster regenerates health twice as fast. Poisoned is depleted twice as quickly.

Knockback
When attacked, you are knocked back to the opposite direction of the monster. If you collide to a wall or monster, you will take additional damage equal to the Knockback %. Knockback damage cannot kill you.

Life steal
If you reveal a monster from exploration, your Hitpoints will be reduced to (100% - the Life steal percentage) and the monster will heal (beyond its max HP) the amount of damage it did.

Magical attack
The attacks of the monster are considered Magical in nature, instead of Physical.

Mana Burn
The monster's attack applies the Mana Burned debuff.

No Experience
Killing the monster yields No Experience.

Poisonous
The monster's attack applies the Poisoned debuff.

Retaliate: Fireball
When this monster is attacked with a BURNDAYRAZ he will attack the caster. This retaliation deals half normal damage. Slowed monsters lose the ability to retaliate for one attack. Fireball always strikes first, and you will not suffer retaliation if you successfully kill the monster with the spell.

:Note that monsters with the weakening trait will also weaken you when retaliating.

Revives
Upon death the monster is replaced with a fully healthy monster. It is usually of a different type and is 1 level lower than the original or the second monster has No Experience.

Spawns
When attacked and not killed, the monster spawns a creature at the nearest empty tile. The spawned creature is particular to the monster, but it always the same level and grants No Experience

Spawn Plants
When attacked and not killed, the monster spawns the specified amount of plants.

Undead
Undead monsters are immune to Poisonous attacks and untargetable by APHEELSIK, and are susceptible to some Undead-specific effects.

Weakening blow
The monster's attack applies a stack of Weakened.

Magic Immune
The monster is immune to magic.

Physical Immune
The monster is immune to physical damage.
Conversion Fodder
Sometimes, players will want to obtain large amounts of conversion points to better leverage their racial bonus. There are many items well-known as "conversion fodder" that are relatively cheap and effective choices for this purpose. Generally speaking, conversion fodder items are considered to be those which offer more than 3 CP for every 1 GP spent. The following items are all considered conversion fodder:

Bloody Sigil (5.6 CP / GP)<br/>
This double-edged item is good for low-level characters, but quickly becomes excess baggage for a high-level character. Fortunately, it has a great conversion value and is worth buying for no other purpose than to immediately convert it.

Gloves of Midas (4.5 CP / GP)<br/>
In addition to offering a superb conversion ratio, this item can also be used to earn additional gold which can be used to purchase even more stuff. As a result, it is highly prized.

Rock Heart (4.3 CP / GP)<br/>
The Rock Heart is a great tool for anyone with knockback damage, the PISORF glyph or the ENDISWAL glyph. Once you're done with it, you can convert it for a windfall. For those without the ability to crush walls, it's still worthwhile just for conversion points.

Viper Ward & Soul Orb (4 CP / GP)<br/>
These superb items grant you immunity to dangerous afflictions, consume only a small item slot, and convert for large amounts of CP when you're done. They're one of the best conversion-fodder buys around.

Balanced Dagger (3.67 CP / GP)<br/>
A very niche item, usually relegated to vicious-difficulty dungeons where higher-level kills are impractical or for players without mad level-catapult skills like the pros have. However, in other scenarios it makes a good conversion fodder item. With its small size, you can carry it around and use it for what it's worth, then convert it when you're done.

Troll Heart (3.44 CP / GP)<br/>
The troll heart will slowly accrue bonus HP as you level up, and can be converted afterwards without losing those hit points. Given its high CP value, this is often a great deal.

Venom Dagger (3.12 CP / GP)<br/>
A consolation prize for those seeking conversion points, the venom sword offers a reasonable amount for a reasonable price. The item itself isn't very useful otherwise, though.

Alchemist Scroll (3.07 CP / GP)<br/>
The rules for items like these can be confusing at times, but the alchemist scroll's bonus HP do not disappear when you convert it, meaning this item can be picked up on the cheap, used sparingly, then converted later without much risk.
You can also find more specific strategies in the class, race, gods and dungeons topics, and are also encouraged to the read the different Annotated Playthroughs.

Important note : The word "wisely" or similar ideas are often used. It might lead you to believe that a wrong decision will doom your character. Ok, this will sometimes be the case, but you will be amazed how resourceful your hero can be. So don't take that word too seriously. Keep playing even if you think that you screwed your run, and you might discover that true power lies beyond your mistakes!

Phases
Dungeon exploration can be divided into four phases, each with their own challenges:
*Preparation: You are not in the dungeon yet, but you still have strategic choices to make. Which class/race/preparation will the best, or the most enjoyable?
*Scouting: Your first few steps in the dungeon, when you are getting a feeling of the place. You are doing more exploration than monster fighting.
*Build-up: When you start building up your character and stacking resources for the final fight. This is really the place where the game is won or lost.
*Boss fight: Unleash all your might to defeat the nasty boss (or bosses) in a flurry of deadly blows, powerful mana and yummy potions.

Preparation phase
Ah, the preparation screen, the place you'll spend hours picking the right class, race and preparations combination that will enable you to solve your next dungeon.

Don't over-think it though; every single dungeon can be won by any class and without any preparations, although some combination are certainly easier than others.

Race selection
Main article : Race

There are two ways to go about race selection: Picking a strategy in advance, or keeping open to whatever the dungeon presents. You should probably pick your race considering the boss (if you know what it will be), but Halflings and Gnomes are almost always helpful.

The races can be sorted into two groups:
* Those giving a permanent bonus: Human, Orc, Dwarf. Convert early, and you'll get the benefit of the race for the whole game.
* Those providing resources: Dwarf, Gnome and Goblin. Convert late, for a powerful spike during boss fight, or during build-up to defeat high level monsters and trigger juicy XP bonuses.

Character builds
A user proposed a while ago different character builds. But that classification is somewhat simplistic and probably a relic of the old alpha version. It is not really used nowadays.

Another classification, still very limited compared to range of possibilities, could be:
* Striker: characters who deal high damage, but won't be able to survive many hits
* Tank: characters who will be able to tank much damage
* Caster: characters relying on heavy use of glyphs to deal damage
* Regen-fighter: characters able to heal faster than the monsters. They may mix various strategies (high damage, glyphs, resistance...)

However, don't take this classification too seriously; the same character will often change its playstyle as the dungeon unfolds. It will depend on the items, glyphs and gods you find and how close you are to the boss fight.

Some other builds are described in the power builds section, and the class pages.

Gold and kingdom
Remember that preparations will cost you gold. So if your vault is near empty, you might want to go as purist.

You can also seek the IN DEMAND trophy, take the bet on boss preparation, and score 1050 gold off the boss kill.

Prior to unlocking IN DEMAND trophies, Transmutation Seals can be used on boss trophies to convert them to their full gold value. Again, the "Bet on the Boss" preparation increases the cash gained.

Later in the game, PQI and flaming dungeons will also provide opportunities to make more gold.

Scouting phase
Levels 1 to 3. It's rarely possible to kill monsters of significantly higher level at this stage, but it can be useful to do some quick scouting around the dungeon and find what Gods and Glyphs are available, as well as what Boss spawned (if in a random boss dungeon).

The length of scouting depends on your play style, but also on the dungeon. Some players might kill few monsters before they have cleared 25% of the map, and thus have more choice for early Build-Up, while others might try to level-up as soon as possible to avoid wasting black space. Even though it's possible to fully explore Hobbler's Hold before fighting any monster and still win, for most dungeons, don't over explore though in scouting phase. Black space is a valuable resource.

Scouting tools
The most useful glyph for scouting is LEMMISI which tends to prioritize revealing altars, the boss, subdungeons, shops, and other glyphs.

Some classes also provide extra information for scouting, such as the fighter, the wizard, the tinker and the half-dragon

Scouting mana investment
While scouting, you probably will have plenty of mana left. Instead of wasting it, WONAFYT is another useful glyph at this stage, enabling you to prepare a nice salted popcorn bowl. Each summoned monster will grant 1 bonus XP, but could also be the occasion for a mid-fight level-up. Summoning brings monsters to you, helping to preserve black space, and is even more efficient if you have a balanced dagger.

If you already are worshiping a god rewarding glyph use such as Mystera Annur, Binlor or Jehora Jeheyu, your extra mana could be invested there.

Build-up phase
Levels 3 to 7. It's possible to kill monsters of significantly higher level during this phase (to generate more XP by using the level-up steamroll and the experience catapult). The goal is to create the appropriate conditions for the final boss(es) fight(s):
*Plenty of resources remaining for the boss fight (piety, conversion points, popcorn, potions...)
*Attaining sufficient level and being one kill away from leveling up
*Accumulating boons from gods
*Useful items

The build-up phase is highly significant, as it requires maximizing XP gain, minimizing resource usage, and choosing an appropriate strategy. It's worthwhile to note that while dungeon exploration is itself technically a limited resource, it is often desirable or even necessary to exhaust all dungeon exploration during this phase to maximize XP gain, unless intending to use a APHEELSIK glyph or regen tactics to defeat the boss(es). In dungeons where there are multiple bosses, it can be helpful though, to leave some black space for regeneration between those fights.

When reaching level 6 to 7, it's often beneficial to have explored most if not all of the dungeon, and begin creating an "XP farm." By weakening several lower level monsters to within a single hit from death, they can be finished later to gain XP for further level steamrolling. Note, it is less useful or even dangerous to leave creatures with the First Strike ability weakened as a part of an XP farm, as they will still deal damage to you when you come back to finish them off.

Exploration
Main article : Exploration

Always remember that during build-up, black space is your main resource. Black space is mana and health. You will transform that health and mana into damage, experience, objects, etc. for the final fights.

So don't be shy in exploration, but explore wisely. (Easier said than done, no?)

As said before, if you don't expect to regen fight, you might want to fully explore the map before the final boss fight to collect all remaining power ups and reveal all monsters.

The hunt for bonus XP
Main article : Level

One of your main goals in build-up phase is to gain enough experience to reach a high enough level to conduct the boss fight, and to create a nice popcorn bowl (for mid-fight level-up). However, if you stick to killing same-level monsters, you will never manage to rise higher than level 5, and will exhaust all potential popcorn. So you need to get bonus XP.

The main source of bonus XP is killing monsters which have a higher level than you. The wider the difference, the bigger the bonus. But there are other tools to get bonus XP:
*IMAWAL which after being cast on a monster will award you a 50% XP bonus on your next kill. This works best if your next kill will award you a lot of XP. Also, note that the XP of the monster you petrified is lost, so prefer low level monsters, monsters which you won't kill (too tough), plants, or the occasional no XP monsters you might encounter.
*Slowing monsters for a tiny 1 bonus XP (still useful when cast extensively)
*Items such as the balanced dagger
*The fighter class and goblin race also are helpful to gain levels with less XP
*Some gods will also give you boons helping to gain levels or bonus XP, such as the Glowing Guardian, Tikki Tooki or Jehora Jeheyu.

Also, note that when choosing a higher level monster to kill (level +2 or +3), you might discover that killing it will cause you to level up. But you might be able to slip in another bonus XP kill (level +1 or +2) before leveling, thus optimizing XP bonuses. However, that will be one popcorn less. So it's up to you to decide which is the most important...

Popcorn collection
Main article : Popcorn

It often is useful to recover health and mana during a boss fight. If you don't want to regen-fight or use potions, one way is to have a mid-fight level-up. The easiest way is to start the fight with your XP one (easy) kill from level-up.

But if you wish to get 2 level-ups during the fight (level steamroll), you will need a lot of weak monsters to kill during your boss fight. That group of low level monsters is called a popcorn bowl. Leaving a lot of popcorn requires you to gain XP fast, leaving many monsters alive. One technique is to perform an experience catapult (killing a monster with an major difference in level, which makes you gain multiple levels at once):
* For example, a level 1 hero killing a level 9 monster gets 81 experience, and will suddenly catapult to level 6.
* A level 2 hero killing the same level 9 monster gets "only" 65 experience, and will wind up at level 5.
Of course, this works better if you do it a low level.

Monster selection
In the search for bonus XP (or simply gathering XP without exploring too much), you will have to choose your next target wisely.
* When possible try to go for the highest level monster.
* Only start fights that you will win: carefully read the combat prediction and check your resources before starting the fight.
* Pay attention to the monster's traits and make sure you know the consequences it will have. Hitting a life-steal and blinking monster when there is still a lot of black space left might not be the best move as you will probably have to start the fight all over again.
* If you are preparing a popcorn bowl, check that the monsters you are leaving actually are good popcorn. For example, cursing or death-gaze monsters might be dangerous as popcorn. So it might better to kill them before starting the boss fight.
* Don't be too scared of debuffs. For example, being mana burned or poisoned just before leveling up is really not a problem (as it will be cleared on level-up). Maybe 1 or 2 weakening or corrosion debuffs might not be such a big deal in exchange for critical XP (especially if you can get it cleared).
* Really pay attention to your god, especially when you can't afford losing XP. Some gods like you killing some monster types: (Taurog loves it when you kill spellcasters, and the Glowing Guardian undead), but others hate when you kill the wrong target (Dracul does not like when you kill undead, and Mystera Annur when you kill spellcasters)

Inventory management
There is one important rule when taking items: they occupy room in your inventory, and the only way to get rid of them is to convert them.
It may be detrimental to fill your inventory with objects you don't need now, or to be obliged to convert an item too early to make room for another powerful artefact...

So think twice before picking something up, and think twice too before converting an object.

In the same way, spend you gold wisely in the shops.

Single-use glyphs
Single-use glyphs are a special case of inventory management. If you know early on in the game that you will be worshiping Taurog, you can still get limited use from some glyphs. The effects of CYDSTEPP, BYSSEPS, and GETINDARE will persist after you convert them, and those effects activating will not anger Taurog (or Binlor, for that matter), so it can be very beneficial to pick up and activate these glyphs (especially CYDSTEPP for non-Fighters), before beginning worship, then convert them afterwards for piety and the racial effect.

LEMMISI is another situation where you might want to convert early, once you've done enough exploration with it.

God selection
Main article : gods

Gods are among the most powerful features in game, granting powerful boons. Actually, a good god understanding is one of the keys to successful vicious dungeon runs. But they might be scary as they will dislike some of you actions, or even punish you if your piety gets below 0.

They are not equal; some will interact better with some classes (you'll get more information in the class pages), some will be more efficient if you worship them early (Glowing Guardian or Jehora Jeheyu), some can be worshiped or converted to in late game (Dracul or the Earthmother), some hate when you kill some monster types which might be important in your dungeon.

So the trick is to understand what they could do for you, when is the right time to worship them, but also keep in mind that you are not obliged to always do what they wish you to do if you have enough piety in stock. Remember also that if you have more than 50 piety points, you can convert from one god to another (if there is more than 1 altar in your dungeon), which might entirely change your play style but also open new opportunities. Note that you will keep the traits the god offered you when converting.

If you urgently need some piety, other altars can be desecrated. The punishment for it might be costly, but it sometimes is extremely useful.

Here is short review of existing gods:
*Binlor Ironshield: Binlor is a god of resistance, resistance erosion and might. It is mainly fueled from wall destruction. It will help you tank huge damage and increase your attack. When used correctly, the knockback effect granted by the stone fist might be incredibly useful.
*Dracul: The dark god which helps you heal from blood pools and weak monsters. You'll hit stronger, but loose max resistance and max health.
*The Earthmother: An extremely powerful god, but which will clutter the map with plants. Used properly, you can get a huge amount of piety from her, transforming it into mana, multiple corrosion layers, first strike or resistance.
*Glowing Guardian: A good god to worship early for XP bonuses and health and mana regeneration in late game. It will clutter your inventory though.
*Jehora Jeheyu: A very strange god. His boons can be very powerful, but will deplete your potions so they must be used carefully. Piety gain is random; if you get lucky, he can give you inordinate amounts of piety. However, punishments are also at random! Try to get the Petition boon to end his punishments as soon as possible.
*Mystera Annur: The god to improve your glyph casting.
*Taurog: Taurog is good for melee fighters but will clutter your inventory with powerful objects. An easy to use god, which will provide you useful death protections in the late game.
*Tikki Tooki: Good choice as a later game deity, as he enjoys you slaying lower level monsters, but a big no for tanks. He loves money, and will help you hitting tough monsters.
*The Pactmaker: A different kind of deity who can be worshiped at the same time as other goods.

Boss fights
Levels 7 to 10. At this point, dungeon exploration likely stops (unless you're using a poison glyph against a boss or can out regen them), and the battle begins. It can be useful at this point to be almost at the next level, allowing the player to use the level-up steamroll to instantly heal to full health and mana, possibly even multiple times during the fight.

The ideal position to be in when starting a boss battle is at Level 7 with 34 / 35 experience, with proper runes, and all health / mana potions remaining, and an exp farm containing 96 experience worth of monsters (enough for level 10) although this is very hard to do. The first phase of the boss battle involves the player using all available health and mana points (but not potions) against the boss before killing weakened monsters to gain a level. This phase ends when the player no longer has enough weakened non-boss creatures to gain another level, or has reached level 10.

Phase two of the boss battle involves the player using other available resources (health & mana potions, etc.) to defeat the boss. This is sometimes called to spike the boss.

In dungeons with two bosses, it can often be effective to kill the "hard hitting" boss with magic attacks during phase one, as they usually have lower max health. This allows the player to save as many health and mana potions as possible for the "tank" boss, who generally doesn't retaliate as powerfully.

Combat tricks
First Strike Finisher
First strike will often allow you to kill a monster you couldn't otherwise beat. Cast it just before the final blow, and the monster gets no retaliation hit.
* Keep in mind that you still take a retaliation hit if the monster has first strike as well.
Read more in the Strike Order article

Fireball Softener
Hitting a monster with fireball before combat will often reduce the number of hits it takes to kill it. Can be used with first strike to take on otherwise dangerous foes without taking any damage.

Regen-fighting
If you have enough attack to do more damage in one hit than your enemy is able to regenerate in the time it takes you to regenerate the damage that he does with a single hit, you can heal between attacks and still be able to have a net effect of his health decreasing. Be careful however, that it might be very exploration consuming.
* A way to determine if you are able to damage your foe quicker that he would heal, is to compare the number of tiles you would need to recover from one of his strikes (damaged caused his attack / health you recover per explored tiles), and the number of tiles he would need to recover from one of your strikes (damaged caused by your attack / health he recovers per tile you explore). If you need less tiles than he does, you will heal quicker. Don't forget to take your spells in account !
* Even if you heal slower than the enemy does, sometimes exploring one or a few blocks mid-battle can regenerate your HP/MP for additional hit/spell so that you can deal enough damage to kill the enemy.

Slow Poison
Attacking an enemy and then poisoning it and exploring (or using the LEMMISI glyph) allows you to take on enemies that would otherwise outlast you in a fight. If attacking with magic you can use this technique to beat a foe that would otherwise kill you with one hit.
* This technique relies on either of two abilities. You can last as long as you can survive a single hit, so if your HP or resistance are as high as possible, you will be able to outlast harder hits.

Level-up Steamroll
With very few experience needed to gain the next level, you can fight a tough monster, and then when you can't fight any more, kill a low-level monster in order to level up. This will restore your health and mana without healing the tough monster. You can then go back to killing the tougher monster with full strength.
It is possible to level up more than once during a single fight. This usually requires the player utilizing the "Experience Catapult" strategy first (see below) so that he has a lot of low-level monsters to kill. Nonetheless, keeping track of how many experience you can get from the available monsters is always a wise thing to do.

Brawling
It often seems more efficient to fight only one monster at a time, entirely devoting your mana and health bar to this fight. But in some cases, it is actually much more efficient to fight two or more monsters at a time. Popcorn for mid fight level up is an example, but more are listed in the Brawling article.

Power builds and other odd tricks
This section lists particularly powerful builds tricks and niche strategies, which -honestly- no sane person could have imagined. The fact that they have been developed tells a lot about DD Community's fading sanity.
TOC right
In-Dungeon Basics
Object of the Game
#Your object is to kill the level 10 "boss monster" in the dungeon. If there are multiple such monsters, you must defeat all of them. The last one you kill will drop a trophy that you can sell.

Gaining Levels
#You start at level 1, and will increase in level as you gain experience, which you get for killing monsters in the dungeon.
#Each time you gain a new level, your attack damage and hit points increase.

Combat
#A combat exchange happens whenever the hero bumps into a monster.
#The higher level combatant strikes first. If the hero and monster are same level, then the monster goes first.
#The first attacker deals damage to the opponent equal to its attack power.
#The second attacker, if still alive, then deals damage to the opponent equal to its attack power.

Mana and Spells
#Mana is used for casting spells. You start with no spells, and must find the spell Glyphs in the dungeon. (Certain, later, classes start the game with a specific glyph in their inventory.)
#In order to learn a spell after you've found it, you must double-click it in the "on ground" slot, and it will appear in your inventory.
#Casting a spell on a monster does NOT trigger a combat exchange.
#Glyphs that aren't very useful to you should be converted by dragging them into the teal-and-red conversion icon. This will give you 100 conversion points, and possibly a benefit depending upon your race. Humans get more attack power, for example.

Healing and Restoring Mana
#As you explore the dungeon, you will restore depleted hit points and mana. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. The unexplored dungeon is a scarce resource that heals you and restores your mana pool. Use it wisely.
#For every square of the dungeon you uncover, you recover 1 mana point, and health equal to your level.
#When you are poisoned, you will not gain health from exploring squares. Poison can be cured by drinking a health potion, casting a healing spell, or by gaining a level.
#When you suffer from mana burn, you will not gain mana from exploring squares. Mana burn can be cured by drinking a mana potion, or by gaining a level.
#Whenever you gain a level, your health and mana are fully restored.

Potions and Powerups
#3 each of the following items: Health Powerup, Mana Powerup, Attack Powerup, Health Potion and Mana Potion. A Thief will cause 4 of each to be created.
# Basic Potions restore 40% of your Max Health/Mana, rounded down, except for Priest (Health Potion 100% effective) and Blood Mage (Mana Potion 100% effective at the expense of 6 Health per Level).
#Every Health Powerup gives you 1 Max Health per Level. This scales as you level up, so don't hesitate when you see one -- pick it up! Dwarf's Conversion works in the same way.
#Every Attack Powerup gives you 10% Damage bonus, which can be viewed by hovering your mouse cursor on your character's attack icon, left to your current damage. This, naturally, scales as you level up. Human's Conversion works in the same way.
#Every Mana Powerup gives you 1 Max Mana. Elf's conversion works the same way.

Monster Health Regeneration
#As you explore the dungeon, wounded monsters regenerate health. They heal 1 health point per level per square uncovered.
#No other actions — including fighting other monsters and moving around parts of the map that you've already explored — will cause monsters to regenerate.

Gold and Items
#You gain gold by finding it in piles in the dungeon.
#If the Bazaar is unlocked, shops will spawn in the dungeon.
#New items can be unlocked by completing quests or class challenges.

Conversion points
#If you find a glyph you're not going to use, drag it to the conversion box for 100 conversion points.
#If you find or buy an item you're not going to use, drag it to the conversion box for its specified amount of conversion points.
#If you fill up your conversion bar with extra points left over, they will carry over.
#Your necessary amount of conversion points and bonus is determined by your race

Preparations
#You can choose to "finance" your adventurer by bringing preparations.
#Preparations are a large variety of things that help your adventurer. Anything from scouting altars, to staring with a fireball glyph, to bringing a cool special potion into the fight.

Inventory
#Every adventurer has 6 inventory slots.
#Each slot can either hold one large item or 5 small items.
#Items like potions, charms and pendants are small space.
#Most items, including glyphs, are large space items

Gods
#Gods in Desktop Dungeons are like most gods in other rogue-likes. They each have there own bonuses and penalties.
#Different actions can either gain or lose piety.
#Piety is used to purchase boons, which give the player good effects.
#If piety hits 0 or below, you invoke the god's punishment.
#In extreme situations, you may want to desecrate another god's altar.
#Desecrating an altar grants some piety and pardon from the next three piety losses you would receive, but invokes the other god's punishment.
#Gods are unlocked by completing their subdungeon(s).
#Once you unlock a god, they are put into the randomizer for which gods will spawn.
#The number of altars that appear in a dungeon depend on the number you have unlocked. You will begin with 1, and will end with 3.

Basic Hints
#Always fight the highest level monster you can defeat. This requires doing some quick math to determine how the combat will play out before you engage and realize you're in over your head.
#Exploring the dungeon is the main way you will regain health and mana, but it is a limited resource.
#Potions are very useful to immediately gain health and mana, but you usually need many or all of them for the fight with the boss.
#Keep in mind that wounded monsters gradually heal as you explore the dungeon. You can't just smack a monster, run and heal, and repeat. However, the regeneration will sometimes benefit you more than him...
#Use your level ups for all they are worth, they cure bad status and return you to full HP / MP, so don't be afraid of being poisoned / manaburned by a monster you'll level up after killing
#The first-strike spell is useful for finishing a monster off. It gets no retaliation shot if you kill it.
#The fireball spell is useful for softening monsters up before combat
#Do not kill your adventurer unless you cannot escape, because they will keep their gold and sell off their loot.

Kingdom Management
Finishing a Dungeon
#When you exit a dungeon, through the main staircase or by taking the trophy, you will immediately send all of your gold into your vault. Then you sell off all your items, normal things for half-price and the trophy for full.
#Your Kingdom Vault cannot exceed its limit, 400 gold at the start but progressive more as you upgrade your bank.

Buildings
#With all of the gold you will be racking up in your vault, you upgrade your kingdom.
#There a 3 main things you can gain from upgrading a building.
#You can gain a new class, and a monster.
#You can gain a new race.
#You can gain new preparations.
#See buildings for more details.

The Adventuring Locker
#One special type of preparation is the adventuring locker.
#If you bring items out of a dungeon, you can drag them into a locker and pay 50 gold to "locker" it.
#If your adventurer dies with the item, converts it, or destroys it in any way you can pay a 50 gold fee to "re-locker" it instead of looking around for it in shops.
#Locker spaces are limited, so you may have to boot something out to put something in.

Point of interest, I played a random map as a Vampire, and I was able to worship the Glowing Guardian without him immediately killing me. Immediately after, something I killed angered the Glowing Guardian somehow- perhaps through use of Lifesteal?

*I also noticed this. I received no piety upon worshipping the Glowing Guardian, but I did still receive full health. Killing the first creature after worshipping caused me to lose my lifesteal.

-----------

Not sure if this is where to post it, but activating and deactivating BLUDTUPOWA gives you piety for Mysteria Annur, giving a free source of infinite piety. Also, you can freeze the game by getting boons from Taurog when you have less than 2 max mana.

*I just tested this as a Wizard in the Library. I picked up BLUDTUPOWA, started worshiping Mysteria, and I did not get piety for turning it on and off. I know for a fact however, that the harmful opposite is true: activating and deactivating this rune in the service of Binlor will anger him every single time. I suspect Taurog is angered similarly, and originally also had suspicions that it would please Mysteria, but this wasn't the case here.

This was a bug removed in a recent patch.
-----------

I just made some major edits to the page, I added the Boons for Jehora and Mystera, what happens when you first worship them(and the Pactmaker and Tikki as well). Too much to count now though, I'm playing the game as I go so I'm pretty sure I got it down for those guys. I'm just finishing up on what I DO know for some other empty columns, so I don't have to retire and start over and over again for stuff that I DON'T know about. Also I figured out that you get more piety for Ironshield based not on how much current gold you have(I had 70 max and only got 5 piety), but how much you picked up during that level.tcarndt June 18 18:25.
-----------
Pretty sure I've gotten extra mana per level from the Pactmaker. Anyone else notice, or am I seeing things?

Almost: Yeah, I think something like that happens. The pactmaker may also give bonuses to health and attack when you level up, but I haven't been paying enough attention to notice.

Also, I think the magic only god does more than what is written, although I can't remember exactly off the top of my head.

In case anyone was curious, if you worship the Pactmaker at <= 5hp, you die.

-----------

Guys, I'm beginning to work on filling out the new piety section. Any help would be greatly appreciated -Lightstriker
Please note for EVERYONE that it will be inaccurate/ incomplete for quite a bit.

-----------

If you have explored 100% of the map when you worship the pactmaker, you start with 40 favor. I'm guessing that it scales, since when I had around 50% I got around 20 favor. Other gods seem to use other systems for granting initial favor. JJ seems to use a random number 1-20 maybe? (it makes a reference to the die being set in motion) Mystera is based off MP spent? Or possibly straight spells cast? spent 70 on 10 casts of endiswal and got 16, spent 70 on 70 casts of bysseps got 16, spent 0 on no casts and got 0.

Ironshield seems to give piety based on gold. Don't call me out on that, but worth checking.

*Glowing Guardian seems to give piety based on damage received. Dracul looks to be based on damage given? Trog I think is based on kills. (or those two might be reversed). I suspect Tikki Tooki is based either on how many items you've picked up or how many items you've purchased. Neongrey 08:20, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
**I received 32 starting piety from Glowing Guardian without having done a single fight in that iteration. It's possible that it might include damage from previous lives (not sure if that's intended or not). Cait 22:05, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

I was just playing a game as a Bloodmage worshipping the Earthmother and I seemed to lose piety for eating a corpse (per the bloodmage ability).

Earthmother just gave me the following appraisal when I joined her: "The Earthmother judges your tasting of the rivers of life and power! (+3 piety) So the starting piety isn't 0.
Njaa 23:36, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

*Tiki Tooki: 50% of money spent, rounded down
**Not 50%, I just bought a Magician's Moonstrike for 120 (and nothing else) and he gave me 21 piety
*Pactmaker: 10% of cells explored, rounded down
*Binlor: 4% of cash on hand (could be off on that, since I'm still at 75 max cash)

Anyone know the scaling formula for MA's starting piety? It's probably similar to the scaling of TT etc, but it's the easiest to test (since you can carefully control MP spent.
------
This 10 minute crawler is relatively sure that Binlor gives starting piety based on the amount of gold you've picked up over the course of the current map, and has also figured out that this is not post-active. Binlor, although he gives piety based on collected gold when you begin worshiping him, does not give piety for gold picked up thereafter. He's a lot like the Pactmaker who gives starting piety based on cells explored, in that you're better off exploring 3/4 of the map and planning the entire adventure out beforehand.

Addendum: Converting a rune to gold with the Goblin's racial trait does not seem to please Binlor in this way. Damn.

I've also noticed that penalties don't seem to be retroactive in this way. Converting a Glyph under Mysteria will get you in trouble, however converting all but say the Fireball rune on the map and THEN going into her service does not provide you with negative starting piety and is thus actually recommended for an "Elf Wizard" or similar combination.
* Similarly, Trog rewards piety only for glyphs you destroy in his service and none before. So better for him to save them and convert them once you commit. Neongrey 16:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

-----------

I noticed the initial piety boost for pactmaker was edited into the table-- since all gods give piety based on some condition or other, should that all be listed under that column? or should we make a separate column for it? Neongrey 17:41, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

I'd love a new column, but the thing's already pretty wide. Are people going to have problems with the width of the thing with all those columns?

-----------
(10 minute crawler again) You could change the Column title from "Worship" to "On Worship", and then in that allotted cell could describe not just effects that happen on the moment of worship such as loss of HP or Gold, but also the "starting piety" effect conditions and you would not only not need another column, you'd also help fill in the table and compensate for the giant entries in the "Options" column.
Also:

Glowing guardian:
# Kill an undead enemy: +1 Piety
# Kill a snake: +1 Piety
# Kill an imp: +1 Piety
# Kill a warlock: +1 Piety

Just say
# Kill a snake, imp, undead enemy, or warlock: +1 Piety

-------

Nix this aside, I just had Jehora transform a boss into Firecracker (the second campaign boss.)

---------------------

Jehora: Important!
I began a map within arm's reach of a Jehora altar during the first of the elven campaign and, wanting the eventual polymorph, worshiped her. She gave me 25 starting piety, so her piety isn't random 1-20. The only thing I did in the map was pick up some gold out of curiosity, but only 3 pieces and we already know Binlor is the patron saint of loose change. ( http://yfrog.com/j125pp )

Also, Tikki gives +1 piety when you teleport an enemy via the Pisorf rune. ("Such a delightful display of disorientation! +1 piety)

Taurog: Also important!
Your wording for one of his boons is wrong. You do not GAIN 25% magic resistance, you are SET to 25% magic resistance. This means that if you choose the Berserker class or are forced into such as the third map of the elven campaign, you must NEVER purchase this upgrade. A Barbarian begins the game with 50% magic resistance, but this will be overridden by Taurog's "buff" and you will end up with less Magic Resistance than before- and during the course of a challenge map such as the Campaign, this is a very fatal error. Taurog does not GIVE resistance, he SETS resistance. This is even the wording in-game.

----------------------

I'm going to assume Jehora penalizes you for using CYDSTEPP or GETINDARE...
I'm pretty sure Tikki Tooki only removes your dodge bonuses the first time you get hit, if you have them.
*No. No. Tiiki only removes your dodge and gives everything first strike if you fall to 0 piety with him. What you probably did was buy the dodge bonus at 15 piety, leaving you at 0, and then went and got hit which would have instantly triggered his anger effect. If you take the simple precaution of giving yourself a little piety buffer, the anger effect becomes completely irrelevant.

Don't be so hasty with that entry for Tikki. He still gets mad if you get hit enough- I don't know the exact conditions, but I have solid proof right here. It's no longer on every single hit, but if you take enough... http://yfrog.com/mv43887190p
Hm. We either die, get full health and mana, or die. We have a chance of dying twice! >.> Sounds about right though given my success with it...

Any chance of having separate pages for each god? The god list is great, and there is data about gods in character sections, but it would be nice to have it to other way as well - detailed god pages that can be linked to which describe the attributes of the god as well as how it's supposed to be woven into your general strategy. Headrock 00:10, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
* I'll go about making a page for each tomorrow. I'm not that great at strategy (the reason why I left a blank Strategy section on each dungeon page) but I can make them look nice enough). I made the infobox templates for monsters and classes... unsure if it would suit each God's article due to the volume of attributes they have, any insight?
** Since they have very little in common that could actually be summarized into a small box, it might not be necessary and/or practical... Otherwise the infobox would be as big as the God's entry on the God list (even half that size is still a little big for an infobox). Earthmother. Dropping to 0 piety results in a perm poison. You cant regenerate HP.
Taurog. Dropping to 0 piety results in him halving your HP. Continuing to anger him kills you.
Tikki Tooki. Dropping to 0 piety gives all enemies first strike.

--------------------
I think I may have figured out how Taurog gives piety when you start worshiping him. I don't think it is based on the bloodstain, but is instead based on the total level of everything you had killed before worshiping him, I killed 2 level 1 Meat Men, 2 level 1 Bandits and a level 3 Meat Man and then worshiped Taurog and got 7 piety, someone else want to check?
--------------------
Ploki122 : Just so you know, GG has a mistake, you get 0 if you kill an undead lower level than you. This means that you get both the +1 and the -1. Also I think the BURNDAYRAZ exception also applies to manashield, it would mean the physically kiling an enemy gives a oenalty. (Those 2 are the only way to magically harm an enemy AFAIK)
Gods work much the same way in the beta version, but all the gods that are implemented have their boons and piety actions changed up, making them in some cases just slightly different (e.g. Tikki Tooki) and in others encouraging an almost entirely different playstyle than before (e.g. Mystera Annur). Some boons can even be used more than once, usually with an increased Piety cost each time; they will be marked "repeatable" on the chart below, usually with a cost of "X + Y*n Piety" (n being the number of times the boon has already been used).

In addition, no altars will spawn at the beginning of the game. Occasionally, the player will find a subdungeon with a particular challenge; this challenge, when conquered, will convert the player to the god they just discovered (even if they were already worshiping another one) and allow this god's altars to spawn in any dungeon. Altars will spawn based on the amount of gods you've unlocked. If you have 1-3, one god will spawn. 4-8 two gods will spawn. If you unlock your ninth god, you will have all three altars spawn.

Two other major changes have occurred to the way altars work. First is Desecration: If worshiping a god, you can smash up another god's altar to gain gain 30 piety (diminishes by 10 for each subsequent desecration) and immunity from the next three piety losses you would receive; in turn, however, the god whose altar you desecrated will punish you as if you had been a follower but reached 0 piety. Second, you can convert from any god to any other god, at any time, at the cost of half your piety (you must have at least 50 piety to do so). The exception is, naturally, if you destroyed an altar, in which case you can't damn well worship there, can you? Sometimes you can really be quite daft.

Prestige: reshape table?

-----------------------
Added the last four conversion costs by mucking as a Human Wizard. The last one, Mystera Annur to Pactmaster was a real bear to find. DalaranJ

-----------------------

Don't be so hasty with that entry for Tikki. He still gets mad if you get hit enough- I don't know the exact conditions, but I have solid proof right here. It's no longer on every single hit, but if you take enough... http://yfrog.com/mv43887190p
Jehora:
"# Effect: Either death or restore full health or mana or death. "
Hm. We either die, get full health and mana, or die. We have a chance of dying twice! >.> Sounds about right though given my success with it...

-----------------------
Any chance of having separate pages for each god?
BTW, what "blank" strategy sections? :D --Headrock 09:22, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
*****I enjoyed it :). I cleaned up some stuff and also did some extra research. Now that the Gods have been appeased, I'm thinking of doing some more research to fill in some of the missing data.
--------------------
Earthmother.

----
I don't know if anyone else is playing attention to this page, but I was thinking I wanted to revise the big table on it to be more compact and not have so much wasted space in some of its columns. This would be helpful for those of us trying to view it on lower resolution screens. I'll work on it, unless anyone wants to voice an objection.--Prestige 03:27, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Ranked is unlocked when a player completes the normal dungeon with all standard classes. Ranked is otherwise like a normal dungeon except that monsters have 20% more Attack and Health and scores may be submitted online.

Challenge dungeons
The remaining 4 types are challenge dungeons, having very specific enemy types and unique appearances. Every challenge dungeon has two bosses instead of one. There are also four non-boss enemy types that only appear in these challenge dungeons.

Snake pit
Populated by naga, serpents and gorgons. Players will fight Nidhogg and Medusa.
Every 2 Classes that complete this challenge will cause an extra pile of gold to be spawned in the dungeons.

Library
Populated by warlocks, dragonspawn and imps. Players will fight Aequitas and the Matron of Flame.
Every Class that completes this challenge will increase the Item Rank Limit for shops by 1.

Crypt
Populated by zombies, wraiths and vampires. Players will fight the Tormented One and Frank the Zombie.
Every Class that completes this challenge will increase the maximum amount of gold you can carry by 5.

Factory
Populated by meat men, animated armour and golems. Players will fight Iron Man and Super Meat Man.
Every 3 Classes that complete this challenge will cause an extra shop to be spawned in the dungeons.

Dungeon Details
A standard dungeon level is created with the following object counts:
* 39 Monsters, split into the following: 10x L1, 5x L2, 4x L3, 4x L4, 4x L5, 3x L6, 3x L7, 3x L8, 2x L9 and 1x L10. This grants a total of 149 Experience (just enough for Level 8) to be earned before confronting the boss, unless the various ways of gaining bonus experience is utilised.
* 3 each of the following items: Health Powerup, Mana Powerup, Attack Powerup, Health Potion and Mana Potion. A Thief will cause 4 of each to be created.
* 10 piles of gold, randomly containing 1 to 3 gold each. A Thief will have 3 extra piles of gold spawned for them. An additional pile of gold will also be created for every 2 Classes that complete the Snake Pit Challenge. This creates a maximum of 19 piles of gold, and 22 for Thieves.
* 3 Shops. A Tinker will cause 6 more shops to be created, and an extra shop will appear for every 3 Classes that complete the Factory Challenge. This creates a maximum of 9 shops, and 15 for Tinkers.
* 5 Glyphs. Both Thief and Wizard will cause an extra Glyph to be spawned. The starting Glyph placed at the feet of certain classes does not count towards the 5. No two Glyphs will be the same, but one of them will always be BURNDAYRAZ. Glyphs may also appear for sale in shops, once their rank has been achieved.
* 3 Altars, each randomly assigned to one of the 10 Gods. No two altars will be to the same God.

Gorgon
Half Dragon
High Health, magic damage, longer sight range, bonus damage in the form of a knockback attack. Enemies hit into walls/other enemies take bonus damage, depending on how many glyphs you've consumed. Can not use fireball glyphs at all.

Vampire
Rogue's bigger, meaner brother/sister. 20% life steal, raised each time a glyph is consumed. Does not regenerate health, except by level up/hitting monsters. First Strike. Loses life each time a new map square is revealed. Hard to start, but past level 3, becomes a steamroller.
