Game Bugs
*Bug - Playing as a Half-Dragon worshiping Binlor, knocking an enemy into the wall gives the message &quot;Binlor thinks your demolition efforts are very clever. (+1 piety)&quot;, but 2 piety is awarded.
*Bug - Repeatedly activating and deactivating BLUDTUPOWA when worshipping Taurog will eventually cause a Division by 0 error.
*Bug - Fire damage estimations don't calculate resistance (the actual damage is correct, though).

Other Game Issues (Balance, Interface, etc.)
*I've played the new version extensively. I've unlocked everything and I have to say it's considerably worse than the last version. This version is all about luck and that doesn't make it much fun. There are far too many games that are unwinnable, and I'm not talking about the start (although that's a huge problem also). Too many classes depend on the right deity appearing. On that subject way too many of the deities are gimmicky and useless 90% of the time. Earthmother (can't kill natural creatures, who cares she's rubbish anyway), Tiki (must kill in one shot), tarog and bindor (no magic), etc. They all have something. This would be fine, if there were viable options for classes. A wizard with tarog or bindor is screwed--this is just one example. Retiring ad nauseum isn't much fun. Shops are useless--it's always the same crap, the good stuff never comes up--and because of the above deity problems, this can make or break a run.
** This post doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. How can classes be reliant on gods when the gods are generally useless? Also, nice job complaining about luck in a RNG-based game; it sounds like you have a severe case of "skill" syndrome.
** I've got to concur with this assessment. Basically too many gods are useless, Dracul, Tiki etc. because they can't be used as part of a strategy, where you'll plan to get this glyph and do that and then boom you have some advantage, and the penalties they give are far greater than the benefits. I've successfully used the plantation boon at level 2, being sure not to lock myself in, but still not gotten enough of an advantage out of it to win the game. The new Pactmaker, on the other hand, is my bread and butter. Yidda 18:55, 20 August 2010 (UTC) -yidda
** It used to be that I'd use Jehora, Taurog, Misteria, or Binlor etc. all the time. Now I only use the Pactmaker. -yidda Yidda 18:55, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
** OK, after a little more play on the new version, I have successfully used Jehora, the Pactmaker, Taurog once or twice, and Dracul twice, once with the Vampire, and once without. I've also beaten the game as an atheist, but I think the other 5 Gods could use some spicing up. Yidda 03:06, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
** Earthmother's interesting...but I have yet to find a viable use for her. The other deities definitely have their uses, though I'm still quite hesitant to pray to Jehora. Raynes 20:54, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Game Feedback
Wine issues
* DD runs awesome under wine with one exception - the mouse. The cursor is laggy and makes the game frustrating to play. Can you provide an option to turn of the software mouse cursor? Having the OS cursor/hw cursor woul make the game work flawlessly under wine. I can test this if you'd like --Lajcik 22:11, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
* I don't know about linux, but there's an app for OSX called Wineskin (http://wineskin.doh123.com/) that can be used to make self-contained Mac application bundle that runs a windows app, I use it to run DD. It would be a nice touch to provide a 'osx version' based on that for folks not in the know :) --Lajcik 22:11, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Magic Attunement - +1 glyph on map, +1 glyph slot
|}}

The wizard is one of the four starting classes in Desktop Dungeons. Wizards are natural magic-users, being able to more easily find, prepare, and use magic glyphs, although they do less melee damage than other classes.

Skills
*Magic Sense - Can see location of all glyphs
*Magic Affinity - Skills cost -1 mana, attack -25%
*Magic Attunement - +1 glyph on map, +1 glyph slot

General Strategy
The Wizard's Magical Affinity disadvantage can be entirely offset by the BYSSEPS glyph, or being a Human, making the wizard highly effective at physical combat when maintaining his available enchantments. The Wizard also benefits highly from the already cheap costs of most physical combat glyphs, getting a 50% reduction of mana cost in BYSSEPS, and a 33% reduction in cost of GETINDARE and HALPMEH.

Since BURNDAYRAZ is always generated, finding it is one of the chief priorities for a wizard. Once you do, you'll be in a much better position to fight enemies of all sorts, especially the otherwise-dreaded physical resistant enemies.

Race and Deity Choices
Since wizards are almost completely defined by their magic, it stands to reason that magically-adept races make the best wizards. More importantly, the extra glyph on the map can amount to an extra glyph conversion, assuming you don't play to use it. Elves make for good wizards that can use their favorite spells almost endlessly, while gnomes can turn unwanted spells into valuable mana potions. If you want to have a decent physical attack to fall back on, humans can also work.

Wizards are one of the best-suited classes for Mysteria Annur. This does not mean that Mystera Annur is always the best choice for a wizard, however, since it turns your normally subpar (but still usable) physical attack into a completely useless one. Be sure to convert all the glyphs you don't need before joining her. The magic-hating gods, Taurog and Binlor Ironshield, are naturally poor choices for wizards. The other gods can be useful in the right situations.

Challenge Modes
Factory
Using BURNDAYRAZ vs Animated Armour helps Wizard beat Factory with Experience Catapult strategy. Since the armours only have one health and don't replenish their death protection, a wizard can even defeat a level 9 one as early as level 1 if they're lucky.

It's a good idea to leave a fair amount of Animated Armour with 1 life left using BURNDAYRAZ as you start exploring for the midfight leveling later on.

HALPMEH is very useful, especially in the fight against The Iron Man, since his 75% Magic Resistance essentially makes BURNDAYRAZ useless. It's also sometimes more worth it to attack physically and spend your mana on healing rather than casting BURNDAYRAZ. If you can't find HALPMEH, CYDSTEPP would help against The Iron Man, though it's more costly for the other fights.

BLUDTUPOWA helps a lot if you find it early. Since you'll be spending mana on BURNDAYRAZ and possibly HALPMEH for healing most of the time, you'll gain a lot from exploring tiles with this glyph activated.

Other than Elf and Human, you might want to consider picking Dwarf so that you can take more hits during the boss fights.

Library
This can be a tough challenge for the Wizard, because defeating the Library depends on both casting spells and inflicting damage with physical attacks. Going magic only will leave you short of manna when trying to defeat Matron of Flame after first dealing with Aequitas. Choose either a human (and make purchases / deity choices) which boost your health, or choose dwarf and emphasize gaining damage. It is possible to defeat Imps that are 3-4 levels higher than you using a combination of fireball, the HALPMEH glyph, and strategic tile exploration. You must have a deity to defeat this level with a Wizard. The Pactmaker is a good choice if you can get it early. You'll need the extra MANA boon to allow constant healing while fighting the Matron of Flame. Another route for those who chose to emphasize health, would be Dracul, choosing his magic resistance and damage bonus respectively. In any case, be ready to do a lot of retiring and retrying to pass this level.
Diamond Body - 50% physical and magical resistance<br>
Discipline - health regeneration rate doubled
|}}

The monk is one of the classes in Desktop Dungeons. It is unlocked by clearing the normal dungeon as a priest. Monks are very durable and can recover health easily and quickly, but do less damage due to their unarmed fighting style.

Skills
*Hand to Hand - attack damage reduced by 50%
*Diamond Body - 50% physical and magical resistance
*Discipline - health regeneration rate doubled

General Strategy
In general, your initial strategy should be to kill low level monsters, seeking out anything which can mitigate your initial attack penalty; level 1 meat men will do 0 damage to you. Any shop items which reduce damage are of special interest to monks. A platemail or mage plate will bring your resistance up to an insane 70%.

After the first few levels, monks should seek out higher level enemies with low damage and high health. Because of monks' faster healing and high armor, they can often refill health via exploring without the monsters having enough time to do the same.

Glyphs of special interest to Monks are:
*BYSSEPS - Mitigates damage penalty
*HALPMEH - High armor makes health more valuable
*LEMMISI - Useful to avoid exploring accessible areas of the dungeon prematurely, and to heal between attacks against some bosses. Fast regeneration makes this especially effective.

Race and Deity Choices
Playing as a human to compensate for the hand to hand penalty is typically the best choice. Attack damage bonuses have a higher proportional effect for monks due to the lower initial damage.

Monks are incredibly effective fighters once their attack penalty is canceled out, but the value of their health can make sacrificing HALPMEH and LEMMISI too painful to make Taurog a strong choice. The Pactmaker is an excellent choice for any class, Monks included. Going after Tikki Tooki is practically a deathwish that will end up stripping you of your resistances, as is Jehora Jeheyu. Dracul is also surprisingly useful in non-Crypt challenge levels, as the combination of Bloodshield and Bloodhunger turns you into an even bigger defensive powerhouse.

Poison Monk Strategy
Because of the monk's resistance, it has a heightened ability to survive first attacks. This means you can, upon finding APHEELSIK, wear down higher level monsters with up to twice as much attack as other characters! Using your spare mana for BURNDAYRAZ (or BYSSEPS or CYDSTEPP) plus taking advantage of your double HP regeneration you can level catapult in greater comfort than other classes.

Challenge Modes
Snake Pit
Due to the anti-melee properties of all monsters here, this is a very difficult challenge for the monk. You'll require a good combination of skills and gods. Once such combination is HALPMEH and Glowing Guardian, possibly coupled with BYSSEPS or CYDSTEPP if you can find them. HALPMEH will quickly earn you piety as you take out Gorgons up to 3 (!!) levels higher than yourself. You'll be able to gain Absolution around level 7, which will enable you to take out Jormungandr fairly easily. Use HALPMEH to undo his poison, and level-up midfight if you can. It's easy enough to get a few piety points from Glowing Guardian to offset having to kill lower-level monsters for that level-up, in fact if you get the Guardian early enough, you might even be eligible for a healing which will help greatly against either boss.

Naturally, buying Immunity from Death Gaze will make this dungeon significantly easier. Don't waste your money on Immunity from Poison if you can find HALPMEH. If you can't find it, it's not likely that you can win the level anyway.

Also, consider switching Human for Dwarf, as the extra health will come in handy.

Another viable strategy is to pick up BURNDAYRAZ as soon as possible and use it to soften up higher-level enemies. If you pick Human and focus on increasing your attack damage (eg. Fine Sword), you can usually take out Gorgons 1-2 levels above. Avoid Nagas and to some extent, Serpents unless taking them out levels you up. The general advice to pick Dracul for Bloodshield and Bloodhunger works well here. If you manage to find APHEELSIK, the Poison Monk strategy would also go well with this.

Crypt
Total key here is Taurog. Not only he will boost your low damage, he will also remove Tormented One's insane defenses. Begin to worship early, convert all your glyphs and accumulate enough piety to gain Fury and Penetration boon. Due to your high defense and increased regen you can explore during battles to outlast any given foe around 2 levels higher than you - experiment a little and you will see. Level up to 7 lvl, and begin to smack the Tormented One. He will succumb quickly to your attacks. Same goes for Frank, but you can also use potions here to speed up the process.

You can also use HALPMEH for benefit - kick enemy, explore 1-2 tiles and heal, then kick again. Monk is about endurance and outlasting foes, after all. If you rely on HALPMEH - consider Glowing Guardian as option to hit enemy a little bit more times.

If you manage your health, mana and xp cleverly you'll have both bosses defeated before coming near level 9. You can even kill the Tormented One without his defenses breached, but in this case you're going to need HALPMEH and Soul Orb to protect you from mana burn.

Library
After a few levels you can easily defeat Dragonspawns 2-3 levels above you with fast regeneration. Having HALPMEH and/or LEMMISI will make things even easier. If neither of those is found, you can use fireballs to accumulate damage.

On Level 7 you will be able to defeat the Matron of Flame without even touching your potions (assumed, you have a few tiles to regenerate). Afterwards Aequitas won't be much of a challenge either.

Factory
Once you have reached level 3-4, the combination of high armor and fast regeneration should make it fairly easy to kill higher level animated armors. Attack the highest level animated armor you can that cannot kill you in one hit. The assistance of BURNDAYRAZ will make this more efficient, though HALPMEH or LEMMISI are a reasonable substitutes.

Super Meat Man is rather easy to defeat with monk, especially if you have bought the tower shield or platemail. Try to be at level 8 or higher before fighting the bosses. It should be possible to heal (via some mixture of HALPMEH, LEMMISI, and exploring) faster than Super Meat man can damage you.

The Iron Man doesn't have much health, so killing him should be fairly easy. You should still have most or all of your potions at this point, but you may want to time this fight to enable you to level up in the middle of it to assist further.
