Gnome: A decent alternative for players not relying on gods, Gnomes shine as Magicians because they are in no real hurry to convert, so there's very little from stopping you from hoarding all your glyphs until the ending boss spike, converting them next to the boss for free slows paying for the actual fireballs with the mana potions generated from the conversions themselves.
"These hardline antitiests demonstrate impressive religious knowledge and talent. They direct most of their incredible skill to the cause of pranking their nemeses, the Crusaders."

The Heretic is a special Tier 4 class from the Desktop Dungeons: Extreme Edition mod, unlocked by paying 3000 gold at the Church. The class specializes in using gods in unorthodox ways, primarily by deliberately antagonizing them.

Strategy
Heretic strategy is a lot more complex than it initially appears, thanks in no small part to turning the way you must think about the gods on its head. The biggest plus the class has is the ability to worship every god on the map and accrue many boons from different gods with relative ease, in a manner similar to the Goatperson. The difference is, you only get a god once, Goatperson can cycle through the altars multiple times. This means to maximize your potential, you must VERY carefully decide when to worship each god and how to spend the piety gained under them, be that on particular boons or by angering the god to convert piety to conversion points.

Because of the sheer complexity of godplay in general and the limited, random altar spawns, this makes Heretic one of the most difficult classes to plan out. Options will change drastically depending on what gods happen to spawn, and the options within those you will want to take drastically differ depending on the dungeon, your race, and item selection. There is no one main gameplan the Heretic wants to follow, they must adapt on the fly to truly stand out. Being unable to stay with a particular god for long is a severe limitation on each one's individual strategy, stackable boons such as Dracul's lifesteal and sanguine boons especially get much harder to use. Always try to keep in mind how much piety you need, how much you can reasonably gain in one level's time, and even how your god's starting piety works to make smart decisions, and always remember that piety drops to 0 every time you level up. If at all possible, try to vent off remaining unspent piety by angering your god before leveling up.

The only true constant weapon at the Heretic's disposal is INDULGENT, which increases their stats upon automatically desecrating their current god. Having all 6 indulgences is a pretty significant pad to the stats, even disregarding boons altogether. Of particular note is the +3 total mana, which when combined with default boosters tally up to an impressive 16 base, enough to get 6 mana out of a single potion with absolutely no additional investment needed into items, boons, or preps. This can lend itself to some of the most solid hybrid characters around, with the proper setup.

Races
Human: INDULGENT eventually ends up giving the Heretic 6 additional base damage, slightly more than an entire level's worth. Humans obviously will get good mileage out of that with damage bonus.

Gnome: INDULGENT also increases base mana, up to 16 when combined with the three boosters. This makes potions pay out 1-1 in fireballs, and 2 potions will buy 3 PISORF casts, which will enjoy the base damage boost INDULGENT also provides.

Goblin: A much trickier and riskier pick, but not one without use. Goblins make interesting Heretics for two reasons: 1. they can better control when they level up, and therefore leave a god, without killing monsters who would otherwise be very useful for gaining piety with the next god, and B. BLASPEMOUS will allow the goblin to directly convert piety to EXP, which has a range of applications. INDULGENT helps offset Goblin's low stats to boot, though you will still want to snag some boons and items to make full use of the race.

Deities
You'll probably want to visit all deities regardless, but some are more important than others because of how little time you have to collect piety.

Jehora Jeheyu awards piety based on tiles visited and so can be acquired very late, and provides several useful late-game boons in return.

Items
Stone Sigil Heretic is VERY pressed for time to get the appropriate piety for their boons, so the usually underwhelming effect of the stone sigil is GREATLY appreciated for squeezing as much piety as possible into one level's time.
Zaratustrahttps://qcfdesign.com/wiki/DesktopDungeons/index.php?title=Template:EE&diff=56710Template:EE2018-04-01T11:14:26Z
Zaratustra:

You'll probably want to visit all deities regardless, but some are more important than others because of how little time you have to collect piety.

Jehora Jeheyu awards piety based on tiles visited and so can be acquired very late, and provides several useful late-game boons in return.
If you've never played a roguelike before, prepare to die, because you will! A lot! Desktop Dungeons was designed as a quick 5-15 minute mini-roguelike experience for you to enjoy without having to lose yourself for hours in the more complex roguelikes such as Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. (DD is also heavily inspired by DCSS.)

Stub

The In Cold Blood dungeon is the Assassin gold Challenge.

The map is similar to Havendale Bridge, including bridge troll, but ice-themed this time around. A one-way staircase leads to a labyrinth subdungeon where the boss can be fought.

Altars to Dracul, Binlor and/or Taurog are available, but not accessible from the subdungeon.

Preparations
None allowed.

Boss
# Draugr - 954 HP, 56 ATK, Poisonous, Blinks, Undead (toggles), Bloodless (toggles). In addition, he will summon Thralls (level 9, bloodless, undead) and level 10 Berserkers (which drop Rock Crushers) whenever he's hit.

Strategy
Goblin Assassin is usually the best pick; between the level 9 Thralls and converting Rock Crushers, you can get several level-ups during the boss fight.

Make sure to reveal the entire area and open a few secondary paths before starting the Draugr fight proper (PISORF or ENDISWAL is a must). PISORF-ing him will cause a few enemies to spawn if you need a pre-fight level-up.

Boss
# Draugr - 954 HP, 56 ATK, Poisonous, Blinks, Undead, Bloodless. In addition, he will summon Thralls (level 9, bloodless, undead) and level 10 Berserkers whenever he blinks.

The Meat Man is the most durable monster in the game, with enormous sums of hit points, but limited by poor attack damage. The key weakness of the Meat Man is his health regeneration; although he has a massive hit point total, he does not heal any faster than regular monsters. Since the damage he deals on each attack is rather low, it can be quite easy to simply fight him by attrition by healing between blows. Characters with resistances or very high damage output, such as the Rogue, Paladin, or Monk can slaughter Meat Men with ease. Physical resistance and high attack damage are the best attributes to focus on when fighting meatmen.

Anyone using the APHEELSIK glyph can whittle these low-damage behemoths down to size in a very cost-effective manner. The healing glyph HALPMEH is a close second against this monster, since you don't need to spend very much mana to cure the relatively minor wounds it delivers. Glyphs that deal direct damage, such as BURNDAYRAZ or PISORF, are highly ineffective, as are one-time buffs such as ENDISWAL, GETINDARE or CYDSTEPP.

Meat Men can be difficult to fight if you're out of exploration space, since their primary weakness is their slow health regeneration. That doesn't mean anything if you can't explore new tiles to heal yourself. As a result, it's always better to deal with Meat Men as early as possible.

When tackling the Super Meat Man boss, you will want to begin the boss battle early so you can explore and maintain a long battle of attrition. If possible, worship Tikki Tooki to gain his poison boon, or use the APHEELSIK glyph. Otherwise, your best bet is to focus on boosting your resistances and attack damage and beating this boss by sheer attrition.
Conversion Fodder
Sometimes, players will want to obtain large amounts of conversion points to better leverage their racial bonus. There are many items well-known as "conversion fodder" that are relatively cheap and effective choices for this purpose. Generally speaking, conversion fodder items are considered to be those which offer more than 3 CP for every 1 GP spent. The following items are all considered conversion fodder:

Bloody Sigil (5.6 CP / GP)

This double-edged item is good for low-level characters, but quickly becomes excess baggage for a high-level character. Fortunately, it has a great conversion value and is worth buying for no other purpose than to immediately convert it.

Gloves of Midas (4.5 CP / GP)

In addition to offering a superb conversion ratio, this item can also be used to earn additional gold which can be used to purchase even more stuff. As a result, it is highly prized.

Rock Heart (4.3 CP / GP)

The Rock Heart is a great tool for anyone with knockback damage, the PISORF glyph or the ENDISWAL glyph. Once you're done with it, you can convert it for a windfall. For those without the ability to crush walls, it's still worthwhile just for conversion points.

Viper Ward & Soul Orb (4 CP / GP)

These superb items grant you immunity to dangerous afflictions, consume only a small item slot, and convert for large amounts of CP when you're done. They're one of the best conversion-fodder buys around.

Balanced Dagger (3.67 CP / GP)

A very niche item, usually relegated to vicious-difficulty dungeons where higher-level kills are impractical or for players without mad level-catapult skills like the pros have. However, in other scenarios it makes a good conversion fodder item. With its small size, you can carry it around and use it for what it's worth, then convert it when you're done.

Troll Heart (3.44 CP / GP)

The troll heart will slowly accrue bonus HP as you level up, and can be converted afterwards without losing those hit points. Given its high CP value, this is often a great deal.

Venom Dagger (3.12 CP / GP)

A consolation prize for those seeking conversion points, the venom sword offers a reasonable amount for a reasonable price. The item itself isn't very useful otherwise, though.

Alchemist Scroll (3.07 CP / GP)

The rules for items like these can be confusing at times, but the alchemist scroll's bonus HP do not disappear when you convert it, meaning this item can be picked up on the cheap, used sparingly, then converted later without much risk.

Class Challenges are special challenges oriented towards each class, three to a class. They usually are limited in such a way as to force an unusual style of play. You may access them from each class' Building.
Zaratustrahttps://qcfdesign.com/wiki/DesktopDungeons/index.php?title=Class_Challenges&diff=15516Class Challenges2014-02-06T16:52:37Z
Zaratustra:

Each of the main 12 classes have three challenges for you to conquer. They come in Bronze, Silver, and Gold challenges. Completing a Silver challenge unlocks an item. If you beat all the gold challenges in the Guild, Thief Den, Church, or Wizard's Tower you can veto one item, preventing it from appearing in a shop.

You cannot earn any gold in class challenges excluding what you bring out of the dungeon.
(add more information about the dungeon layout and enemies)

Honour and Glory is the Paladin Silver Class Challenge.

You worship Taurog.

Races
Human works quite well, and Elf works to counteract Taurog's mana loss if you want to use your glyphs more.

Strategy
Prep a Compression Seal. Explore a bit to find some glyphs to convert, get Skullpicker. Use that to win the earlygame forever. Accrue Taurog's gear. Try to use HALPMEH when you've just gotten another piece of Taurog's gear so as to maximize your piety gain and leverage your Holy Work class feature. Don't be afraid to use mana potions to spike high level fights, you're not going to be needing them for the boss. Good items to pick up are Platemail, Elven Boots, and Soul Orb. Platemail allows you to start attacking the boss at level six, and Elven Boots allows you to throw two BURNDAYRAZ even with Taurog's gear. With a midfight levelup, health potions, and Taurog's death protections, you should easily be able to take down the boss.

Removed the almost 4 year old discussion here (still accessible by editing), but ok my main point: I tried to update the DD image, see http://www.qcfdesign.com/wiki/DesktopDungeons/index.php?title=File:Gameplay.png , but the thumbnail is broken. Does somebody know how to fix this? Gakato 15:48, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

That happens often and is not a real game stopper. Try uploading the file again, and if it doesn't work, just let it be. -- Zaratustra 16:47, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
Is the download link provided broken? It looks like it's out of bandwidth -- is there an alternate place where the game can be downloaded?

Have you tried the alternate links provided? And sorry about the slow response WRT the spammer, I've appointing some admins and blocked the necessary IP --Nandrew 00:52, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Just a note on that sentence :
"Desktop Dungeons was designed as a quick 5-15 minute mini-roguelike experience". It might have been designed so, but for me an average game lasts between 30 and 45 mn. I might be very slow, or Desktop dungeon slightly moved away from its original design.
Buy less than an hour is still much better than daaaays for a roguelike. --Flap 09:43, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm speaking from ignorance here, but I wonder if we could get this wiki to have the game versions at the top of each page, so that for things that changed significantly, we can maintain the older info. The Dwarf Fortress Wiki does this very well:
http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Stockpile

but they're the only ones that I've seen pull this off

Parser Function
Could it be possible parser functions aren't installed in this wiki? Take a look at Template:ArchiveBanner, it seems to be capturing that there's a magic word there but doesn't actually pull the parse job off. Obviously this isn't near vital so I'm just curious as to whether I'm doing this wrong or if my assumption is correct.
See here for more info on parsers. And here on how to install if possible.--Gentlegiant03 03:07, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
