APHEELSIK is an advanced glyph that prevents monsters from regenerating their health. It is the signature glyph of the Assassin class. Undead monsters are immune to its effect. Attacking any monster will cause poison to fade, and the target will resume health regeneration at this point.

Unlocking the glyph

APHEELSIK is unlocked by upgrading the Thieves Den and unlocking the Assassin.

Strategy

APHEELSIK is commonly used to slowly whittle away stronger monsters by allowing the adventurer to regenerate their health while the target is poisoned. This allows you to tackle foes that would ordinarily be much too strong to fight, earning bonus experience for doing so. Because of its high mana cost, most of your mana will be diverted towards maintaining your poison, so this approach works best with a physical attack. In order to use this approach, you must first be able to survive at least one attack from the monster in question, which will require you to either pick a monster with low damage, or improve your characters hit points or damage resistance.

It is possible to use APHEELSIK with spellcasting and avoid using physical attacks against the target altogether. However, this is incredibly inefficient without the BLUDTUPOWA glyph and an expanded mana pool. If you can raise your maximum mana to 19 then you can cast two fireballs for every one poison attack, whereas otherwise you must recast poison after every fireball. Most of the time, a mana pool as high as 19 is only possible for elf characters, though worshippers of Jehora Jeheyu or Mystera Annur should also be able to do this.

Assassins have the unique ability to corrode their target with APHEELSIK. Every point of corrosion increases the damage the target takes by 1 point, and can be stacked indefinitely. This allows assassins to re-cast APHEELSIK repeatedly to render their target weaker and more vulnerable. All types of damage benefit from corrosion, and this will work with physical attacks, BURNDAYRAZ, and PISORF. If you have a knockback attack (such as the bear mace) this will actually double-dip, and deal the corrosion damage both on your physical attack and your knockback attack. Unlike burning, corrosion has no cap and never disappears from the target.

The APHEELSIK glyph is one of a select few that becomes useless at a certain point. Once the dungeon is explored, there is no more regeneration to be had either for the player or monsters, making this glyph completely pointless. This makes the glyph a great candidate for conversion if you need to free up inventory space towards the end of the dungeon; it's going to be completely useless before long anyways. On the other hand, it can be a good idea to leave sub-dungeons completely unexplored when using APHEELSIK, saving some extra exploration space for when it counts the most.

Hints

  • Poison is largely worthless against monsters with debuffs, such as weakening, corrosion, mana burn, and poison. However, if you have the HALPMEH glyph you can cure poison.
  • APHEELSIK is the only glyph that costs exactly 7 MP to cast, meaning it gains more relative benefit from Mystera Annur's mystic balance boon than any other glyph
