I decided not to pay the toll because I had Bear Mace and PISORF. It was actually a bit of a hassle crossing the bridge because the first thing there is a PISORF solution, but not the obvious one. Slight puzzler there.

I had trouble finding ways to spend all of my gold. I ended up using mostly mana potions, and had 13 health potions left over. The Tolkoshe charms for the magic zombie and a level-8 apprentice (or whatever the wimpy DP guys are) did a lot of work, and then I went conversion-crazy. Piercing Wand for Lord Gobb was also pretty nice. With Mystera on the board and more mana potions still left to go, it was no sweat burning him up too. Could've slapped him 10 more times and fireballed him another 6 or 7 with all of that.

Sometimes I think there should be something in between Vicious Token and regular Hard. But part of it was that the Dragon Heart prep made this much easier than it would normally be. It was like having two races, more or less - or maybe more like one-and-a-half, depending on where three Dwarf bonuses puts you in terms of CP. At any rate, dwarf-halfling is sort of a powerful thing.

Why would you ever pay the toll as a Halfling? The Troll should be easily defeated if you're willing to sink 2 healing potions into that fight, and the sensation stone he drops gives them right back to you.

Having a level 8 Rusalka behind the troll, with the Rusalka itself blocked by someone else, was not a fun surprise. Being a potion race really helped with that, though, as did the Crystal Ball, where most of my money ended up going. I regretted not taking flame magnet but it wasn't that hard regardless.

I'm sorry, I think you're vastly overstating the difficulty of that Troll. That 70 hit points with 50% resist both looks imposing, but if you start adding up damage from a simple level 4->5 catapult you'll have him within potion-spiking distance. With vicious token on it'd be another matter, but with regular Havensdale I've literally never had to bribe the troll, and virtually never need to tap my potions. I can get not wanting to blow resources in the context of a daily, but with a Halfling he just recovers everything he loses from the conversion stone. Maybe there's a hypothetical case where there is literally no useful glyphs, no useful altars, no useful shop items, and the monsters spawns are deeply unfavorable, but I've never seen such a perfect storm.

(edit - and to be clear this is from one veteran to another. I don't expect newcomers to perform such an aggressive attack sequence against such a powerful enemy, especially in the context of the daily)

Did today's Daily Faithless and picked the map clean afterwards. Troll was a bit of a hassle because the glyphs were all on the far side of the map but potionable, followed by a level 8 corroding thingy just behind him, which again took a potion. Hitball sub with Wonafyt is *wonderful* and I mauled it at level 7. Fire Heart + Elven Boots + Tokens trivialised Zin Kibaru, and I messed about pisorfing the bosses into each other to get a double kill on them.

Ended this one with a lot of potions left over and just cleaned the map afterwards in order to try to maximize the profit. Well nothing to fancy here.

Elite items gives you alchemist scroll right off the bat, and along with Draco's heart and the bonus thief health booster, i got to have some fun with max health shenanigans. Didn't get Dwarven gauntlets for fear of not having money for the scroll, but I could probably have managed it. Also, piercing wand wasn't available for me.

Used bloodtupowa to fireball both bosses to death, and got faithless to boot. Magic Resistance? Schmagic resistance.

(I STILL nearly killed myself on hitball though. Forgot to bring potions to the last fight. That would have been embarrassing.)

Human Chemist, Creeplight Ruins

Wasn't really concerned about my so-called streak and it showed. Also, Chemist vs triple boss is pretty yucky in my book. On top of that, Human doesn't scale that well off of BYSSEPS stacking. I probably needed to be more aggressive leveling, but I got to 5 with most of the map uncovered. It was really bad. It was a Humility-buffed 5, but my fireballs couldn't tell the difference. I thought that Human + GG would just outscale everything, but then the map is gone and your potions are all garbage. I screwed up form 1 pretty badly, and barely killed form 2 before retiring.
