When I first saw Rat Monarch in Labyrinth I got really afraid, with a flashback to a rather recent daily with another monster class in another maze-themed dungeon. A bad layout could easily doom the Rat. Fortunately, this was not a bad layout. Far from it.

With ENDISWAL and CYDSTEPP in the glyph pool the dungeon layout and high-damage boss were not the issues they could have been. Tomithy as the randomized boss is pretty much as easy as it gets (even Rat can just straight up fight that guy with no blackspace antics). Taurog, Mystera, and Dracul in the default deity loadout gives you plenty of options. And to top it off, a balanced dagger mere steps into the dungeon? Free momentum. Then you had stuff like Elven Boots, Badge of Courage, and Agnostic's Collar. There were more good items than I had cash to spend on them. Still took this one really slow and carefully (for me, anyways), but it really wasn't bad.

I ran into Rex at level 3 which tempted me to quit right there, but fortunately I found CYDSTEPP soon after and used most of the remaining exploration spamming that on Rex and then regen fighting with fireballs.

ENDISWAL wasn't even an Extra Glyph, so stumbling upon Rex at 3 was only as big of an issue as you ability to save 5 MP and/or escape paths. I made sure to think about it constantly. Since kills are sort of spread out and I needed the ENDISWAL spam to farm piety and to keep my MP pool empty while building stacks, it was hardly an issue. The occasional popcorn to cap off a level was completely out in the open by then.

I still was tight on blackspace. Luckily there was some good CP fodder for Rex, and one of them came with a Death Protection. Bloody Sigil was a nice cheap item to leverage off of ENDISWAL for some of the earlier corrosion stacks. I probably could've saved some blackspace if I'd made a careful plan and used mana potions a little more, but there was still enough blackspace for Tomithy, and he's one of the few bosses that you can effectively potion-tank as a rat anyway. I ended up with almost 100 piety unspent. I could've gone Dracul, but I wanted to drink the health potions first... Oh well, maybe next time.

Ended the dungeon without leveling up on Tomithy or popcorn. Walked out with triple debuffs. I like to think that Marf likes it that way, but more likely they would be insulted to hear that I thought that.

Fun casual Rat Monarch run today. I'm really-really surprised by the low winrate (below 25% at time of writing) because the default spawning ENDISWAL pretty much makes The Labyrinth manageable; CYDSTEPP really makes monster (and boss) kills much easier for the Rat; and Mystera is one of the best deities for them (I'd mention Dracul too, but today there were simply too many filthy zombies for Dracul to work as anything but a late-game deity).

Anyway, good luck for anyone yet to attempt the run, and I do recommend checking out some of the available resources in case of doubt or lack of self-confidence (wiki page; my guide).

I probably should've used the corrosion-knockback trick. It's not like it's hard to make Rex move... Anyway, I had already gotten Mystic Balance, so PISORF just looked like CP to me by then. X-D

Well, after I have found Cydstepp + Pisorf at around level 2 or 3 I just converted all my remaining blackspace to corrosion stacks for Rex and pushed him hard into Tomithy... Didn't even need to use potions, just used the spoon for regen, as I already got the bloody sigil early on. :D
