I can speak for myself. I did not pick patches because it is not in my solution space:
* I never used it.
* I do not play vampire much (only unlocked it recently), and I do not even remember that vampire is immune to mana burn/poison.
* I do not know what "grid reveal" is from the wiki description.
* DERP streakbuilding page recommends to not pick it.
* That seal makes it trivial to access hidden subs.

Ofc now that you pointed out that vampire is immune to most of the curses, it makes sense to pick it.

Luckily, it was only a Normal dungeon. I got "feeling parched" without even trying.

Oh, interesting. So theoretically it could trigger and not a single tile actually gets revealed. It's somehow even less threatening than I thought, then, if it's something that can be mitigated just by standing somewhere reasonably well explored.

Vampires are effectively immune to everything that Patches does. Reveal and Teleport don't matter for the simple reason that Vampires should explore much of the level right at the start... so there's not much blackspace left to reveal (and it's not precious anyways), and you'll know if the map is really too dangerous for teleport before you level (and on some levels like today's that's simply never an issue... even on the ugly ones there's always a chance that you've got a spell that will let you prep the dungeon or defend against teleport). So Vampires should almost always worship their Teddy (because he's the only being that will give them boons) when he comes up in a DERP... it would take something like Yendor opposite it to make me switch.
