Desktop Dungeons has a multitude of Quests that help to develop the Kingdom and unlock content for the adventurer. If you ever need to check the status of Quests visit the Tavern.

Due to the rewards associated with some quests it's highly advisable to upgrade the Bank before completing them.

The Perpetual Questing Initiative


The Perpetual Questing Initiative is a roving quest that moves from dungeon to dungeon encouraging you to get more completion. It is unlocked when (you collect your 15th unique trophy?). The PQI will appear in a somewhat randomly chosen dungeon (selection is heavily weighted towards dungeons with lower completion) asking you to defeat it with a particular race and class, while earning a particular badge. If possible, it will choose a class and badge that you don't yet have credit for. The reward is 500 gold for completing a normal PQI (and 1500 gold for completing a Vicious PQI). When you complete the Perpetual Questing Initiative, it will reappear in a new dungeon (this may also happen when you complete any dungeon, or quit the game).

PQI Selection Algorithm

Based on observation, the PQI algorithm works as follows:

1. PQI first picks a dungeon. Normally it selects the least completed dungeon and always excludes both Gaan-Telets. Initially Vicious dungeons cannot appear in the PQI. Once you have progressed sufficiently in the game, the PQI will start to select Vicious difficulty dungeons as well. At first their weight is significantly reduced; however, as you approach 100% completion, their weight increases. In a fully rainbowed kingdom, PQI only selects Vicious dungeons.

2. PQI then picks a class. If any class badges are still missing from the selected dungeon, it randomly picks one of those; if all classes are completed, PQI picks any one random class. PQI never picks Goatperson.

3. PQI then picks a race (for non-monster classes only). The race is selected from a short list of races tied to the class picked. Prior runs (or frequency of each race being used) have no effect on this. For example, the short list of Warlord includes Dwarf and Halfling, so whenever Warlord is picked, it will be either Dwarf or Halfling, because these are the only two options. See below for the possible combinations.

4. PQI then picks a badge. If any badge is missing, it picks one of those randomly; if all badges are already completed, it pick any one random badge. PQI never picks Vicious Token.
